[वै] जयद्रथस तु संप्रेक्ष्य भरातराव उद्यतायुधौ पराद्रवत तूर्णम अव्यग्रॊ जीवितेप्सुः सुदुःखितः ॥ ३-२५६-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said: "Seeing the two brothers with weapons raised, Jayadratha, overwhelmed with grief yet intent on saving his life, fled swiftly and calmly."' ॥ 3-256-1 ॥
english translation
तं भीमसेनॊ धावन्तम अवतीर्य रथाद बली अभिद्रुत्य निजग्राह केशपक्षे ऽतयमर्षणः ॥ ३-२५६-२ ॥
'But the mighty and enraged Bhimasena leaped from his chariot, pursued the fleeing Jayadratha, and seized him by the hair.' ॥ 3-256-2 ॥
english translation
समुद्यम्य च तं रॊषान निष्पिपेष महीतले गले गृहीत्वा राजानं ताडयाम आस चैव ह ॥ ३-२५६-३ ॥
'Bhima lifted him high into the air and hurled him violently to the ground. Grabbing the prince by the head, he struck him forcefully.' ॥ 3-256-3 ॥

पुनः संजीवमानस्य तस्यॊत्पतितुम इच्छतः पदा मूर्ध्नि महाबाहुः पराहरद विलपिष्यतः ॥ ३-२५६-४ ॥
'As the wretch regained consciousness and groaned aloud, attempting to rise, the mighty-armed Bhima struck him on the head with his foot.' ॥ 3-256-4 ॥

तस्य जानुं ददौ भीमॊ जघ्ने चैनम अरत्निना स मॊहम अगमद राजा परहार वरपीडितः ॥ ३-२५६-५ ॥
'Bhima pressed him down with his knees and pummeled him with his fists. Overwhelmed by the relentless blows, the prince soon lost consciousness.' ॥ 3-256-5 ॥
