तथा तम उञ्छधर्माणं दुर्वासा मुनिसत्तमम उपतस्थे यथाकालं षट कृत्वः कृतनिश्चयः ।। ३-२४६-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'In this way, Durvasa, having made up his mind, presented himself six times during successive seasons before that best of sages living according to the Unchha mode.' ।। 3-246-21 ।।

english translation

tathA tama uJchadharmANaM durvAsA munisattamama upatasthe yathAkAlaM SaTa kRtvaH kRtanizcayaH || 3-246-21 ||

hk transliteration

न चास्य मानसं किं चिद विकारं ददृशे मुनिः शुद्धसत्त्वस्य शुद्धं स ददृशे निर्मलं मनः ।। ३-२४६-२२ ।।

sanskrit

'Yet, the sage could not detect any agitation in Mudgala’s heart, and he found the pure heart of the pure-souled ascetic to always remain untainted.' ।। 3-246-22 ।।

english translation

na cAsya mAnasaM kiM cida vikAraM dadRze muniH zuddhasattvasya zuddhaM sa dadRze nirmalaM manaH || 3-246-22 ||

hk transliteration

तम उवाच ततः परीतः स मुनिर मुद्गलं तदा तवत्समॊ नास्ति लॊके ऽसमिन दाता मात्सर्य वर्जितः ।। ३-२४६-२३ ।।

sanskrit

'Then, well-pleased, the sage addressed Mudgala, saying, 'There is no one on earth as guileless and charitable as you.'' ।। 3-246-23 ।।

english translation

tama uvAca tataH parItaH sa munira mudgalaM tadA tavatsamò nAsti lòke 'samina dAtA mAtsarya varjitaH || 3-246-23 ||

hk transliteration

कषुद धर्मसंज्ञां परणुदत्य आदत्ते धैर्यम एव च विषयानुसारिणी जिह्वा कर्षत्य एव रसान परति ।। ३-२४६-२४ ।।

sanskrit

'The pangs of hunger drive away righteousness and rob people of their patience. The tongue, attracted to delicacies, draws people toward them.' ।। 3-246-24 ।।

english translation

kaSuda dharmasaMjJAM paraNudatya Adatte dhairyama eva ca viSayAnusAriNI jihvA karSatya eva rasAna parati || 3-246-24 ||

hk transliteration

आहारप्रभवाः पराणा मनॊ दुर्निग्रहं चलम मनसॊ चेन्द्रियाणां चाप्य ऐकाग्र्यं निश्चितं तपः ।। ३-२४६-२५ ।।

sanskrit

'Life is sustained by food, and the mind, being fickle, is difficult to control. The true austerities of an ascetic lie in the concentration of the mind and senses.' ।। 3-246-25 ।।

english translation

AhAraprabhavAH parANA manò durnigrahaM calama manasò cendriyANAM cApya aikAgryaM nizcitaM tapaH || 3-246-25 ||
