विशेषस तव अत्र विज्ञेयॊ नयायेनॊपार्जितं धनम पात्रे देशे च काले च साधुभ्यः परतिपादयेत ॥ ३-२४५-३१ ॥
'Here is a special wisdom to be known: Wealth that is earned righteously (through just means) should be given to worthy recipients (patra) at the right place (desha) and at the right time (kala), and to good people (sadhubhyah).' ॥ 3-245-31 ॥
english translation
अन्याय समुपात्तेन दानधर्मॊ धनेन यः करियते न स कर्तारं तरायते महतॊ भयात ॥ ३-२४५-३२ ॥
'Vyasa emphasizes that charity must be performed with purity of intent, and only wealth acquired through righteous means should be given away. Ill-gotten wealth, even if donated, cannot free the giver from the cycle of rebirth.' ॥ 3-245-32 ॥
english translation
पात्रे दानं सवल्पम अपि काले दत्तं युधिष्ठिर मनसा सुविशुद्धेन परेत्यानन्त फलं समृतम ॥ ३-२४५-३३ ॥
'Even a small offering, when given at the right time and to a worthy recipient, yields immense and lasting rewards in the afterlife.' ॥ 3-245-33 ॥

अताप्य उदाहरन्तीमम इतिहासं पुरातनम वरीहि दरॊण परित्यागाद यत फलं पराप मुद्गलः ॥ ३-२४५-३४ ॥
'To illustrate this, he recalls the story of Mudgala, who attained great merit by donating just a drona of grain.' ॥ 3-245-34 ॥
