[वै] वने निवसतां तेषां पाण्डवानां महात्मनाम वर्षाण्य एकादशातीयुः कृच्छ्रेण भरतर्षभ ॥ ३-२४५-१ ॥
'Vaiśampāyana continued, "As they dwelled in the forest, O mighty bull of the Bharata race, the high-souled Pāṇḍavas endured eleven years of hardship and distress."' ॥ 3-245-1 ॥
english translation
[vai] vane nivasatAM teSAM pANDavAnAM mahAtmanAma varSANya ekAdazAtIyuH kRcchreNa bharatarSabha ॥ 3-245-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपराप्तकालम अनुध्यान्तः सेहुर उत्तमपूरुषाः ॥ ३-२४५-२ ॥
'Though worthy of happiness, those foremost of men endured great suffering, sustaining themselves on fruits and roots, their minds weighed down by their fate.' ॥ 3-245-2 ॥

parAptakAlama anudhyAntaH sehura uttamapUruSAH ॥ 3-245-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयुधिष्ठिरस तु राजर्षिर आत्मकर्मापराधजम चिन्तयन स महाबाहुर भरातॄणां दुःखम उत्तमम ॥ ३-२४५-३ ॥
'The mighty-armed Yudhishthira, that royal sage, reflected on the misfortune that had befallen his brothers, knowing it to be the consequence of his own actions.' ॥ 3-245-3 ॥

yudhiSThirasa tu rAjarSira AtmakarmAparAdhajama cintayana sa mahAbAhura bharAtRRNAM duHkhama uttamama ॥ 3-245-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन सुष्वाप सुखं राजा हृदि शल्यैर इवार्पितैः दौरात्म्यम अनुपश्यंस तत काले दयूतॊद्भवस्य हि ॥ ३-२४५-४ ॥
'Tormented by the memory of their hardships and the ruin brought by his ill-fated game of dice, he found no peace in sleep.' ॥ 3-245-4 ॥

na suSvApa sukhaM rAjA hRdi zalyaira ivArpitaiH daurAtmyama anupazyaMsa tata kAle dayUtòdbhavasya hi ॥ 3-245-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसंस्मरन परुषा वाचः सूतपुत्रस्य पाण्डवः निःश्वासपरमॊ दीनॊ बिभ्रत कॊपविषं महत ॥ ३-२४५-५ ॥
'He felt as though his heart had been pierced by a lance. Remembering the cruel words of the Suta’s son, the Pāṇḍava, though seething with suppressed wrath, endured his days in humility, heaving deep sighs.' ॥ 3-245-5 ॥
