[जनम] वसमानेषु पार्थेषु वने तस्मिन महात्मसु धार्तराष्ट्रा महेष्वासाः किम अकुर्वन्त सत्तम ।। ३-२४१-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Janamejaya said, “While the high-souled sons of Pritha were dwelling in the forest, what did the sons of Dhritarashtra—those foremost of men and mighty archers—do?”' ।। 3-241-1 ।।

english translation

[janama] vasamAneSu pArtheSu vane tasmina mahAtmasu dhArtarASTrA maheSvAsAH kima akurvanta sattama || 3-241-1 ||

hk transliteration

कर्णॊ वैकर्तनश चापि शकुनिश च महाबलः भीष्मद्रॊणकृपाश चैव तन मे शंसितुम अर्हसि ।। ३-२४१-२ ।।

sanskrit

'And what did Karṇa, the son of the Sun, along with the mighty Śakuni, Bhīṣma, Droṇa, and Kṛpa do? It behooves you to tell me this.' ।। 3-241-2 ।।

english translation

karNò vaikartanaza cApi zakuniza ca mahAbalaH bhISmadròNakRpAza caiva tana me zaMsituma arhasi || 3-241-2 ||

hk transliteration

[वै] एवंगतेषु पार्थेषु विसृष्टे च सुयॊधने आगते हास्तिनपुरं मॊक्षिते पाण्डुनन्दनैः भीष्मॊ ऽबरवीन महाराज धार्तराष्ट्रम इदं वचः ।। ३-२४१-३ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaisampayana said, "O mighty king, when the Pāṇḍavas had thus departed, leaving Suyodhana behind, and when he, having been freed by the sons of Pāṇḍu, returned to Hastinapura, Bhīṣma spoke these words to the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra."' ।। 3-241-3 ।।

english translation

[vai] evaMgateSu pArtheSu visRSTe ca suyòdhane Agate hAstinapuraM mòkSite pANDunandanaiH bhISmò 'baravIna mahArAja dhArtarASTrama idaM vacaH || 3-241-3 ||

hk transliteration

उक्तं तात मया पूर्वं गच्छतस ते तपॊवनम गमनं मे न रुचितं तव तन न कृतं च ते ।। ३-२४१-४ ।।

sanskrit

'O child, I had told you before, when you were intent on going to the hermitage, that I did not approve of your journey.' ।। 3-241-4 ।।

english translation

uktaM tAta mayA pUrvaM gacchatasa te tapòvanama gamanaM me na rucitaM tava tana na kRtaM ca te || 3-241-4 ||

hk transliteration

ततः पराप्तं तवया वीर गरहणं शत्रुभिर बलात मॊक्षितश चासि धर्मज्ञैः पाण्डवैर न च लज्जसे ।। ३-२४१-५ ।।

sanskrit

'But you went nonetheless. And as a result, O hero, you were forcibly captured by the enemy and later freed by the Pāṇḍavas, who are well-versed in righteousness. Yet you feel no shame.' ।। 3-241-5 ।।

english translation

tataH parAptaM tavayA vIra garahaNaM zatrubhira balAta mòkSitaza cAsi dharmajJaiH pANDavaira na ca lajjase || 3-241-5 ||
