कर्ण सौबलयॊश चापि संस्मृत्य वचनान्य असौ निर्वेदं परमं गत्वा राजा दुर्यॊधनस तदा वरीडयाभिपरीतात्मा नैराश्यम अगमत परम ॥ ३-२३९-११ ॥
'Hearing these words of Karna and Shakuni, King Duryodhana grew even more disheartened. Overcome with shame, his spirit sank into utter despair.' ॥ 3-239-11 ॥
english translation
सुहृदां चैव तच छरुत्वा समन्युर इदम अब्रवीत न धर्मधनसौख्येन नैश्वर्येण न चाज्ञया नैव भॊगैश च मे कार्यं मा विहन्यत गच्छत ॥ ३-२३९-१२ ॥
'Hearing all that his friends said, he sorrowfully replied, ‘I have no more concern with virtue, wealth, friendship, power, or pleasure. Do not stand in my way—leave me, all of you.’' ॥ 3-239-12 ॥
english translation
निश्चितेयं मम मतिः सथिता परायॊपवेशने गच्छध्वं नगरं सर्वे पूज्याश च गुरवॊ मम ॥ ३-२३९-१३ ॥
'I am firmly resolved to renounce my life by fasting. Return to the city and show due reverence to my elders.' ॥ 3-239-13 ॥
english translation
त एवम उक्ताः परत्यूचू राजानम अरिमर्दनम या गतिस तव राजेन्द्र सास्माकम अपि भारत कथं वा संप्रवेक्ष्यामस तवद्विहीनाः पुरं वयम ॥ ३-२३९-१४ ॥
'Thus addressed, they replied to the royal subduer of foes, saying, ‘O king, your path is ours as well, O Bharata. How can we return to the city without you?'' ॥ 3-239-14 ॥
english translation
ससुहृद्भिर अमात्यैश च भरातृभिः सवजनेन च बहुप्रकारम अप्य उक्तॊ निश्चयान न वयचाल्यत ॥ ३-२३९-१५ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, 'Though entreated in every way by his friends, counselors, brothers, and kin, the king did not waver from his resolve.'' ॥ 3-239-15 ॥
