जितकाशिनश च खचरास तवरिताश च महारथाः कषणेनैव वने तस्मिन समाजग्मुर अभीतवत ॥ ३-२३३-६ ॥
'And soon, those victorious sky-rangers and the impetuous warriors, the sons of Pandu, fearlessly encountered each other in that forest.' ॥ 3-233-6 ॥
english translation
jitakAzinaza ca khacarAsa tavaritAza ca mahArathAH kaSaNenaiva vane tasmina samAjagmura abhItavata ॥ 3-233-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनयवर्तन्त ततः सर्वे गन्धर्वा जितकाशिनः दृष्ट्वा रथगतान वीरान पाण्डवांश चतुरॊ रणे ॥ ३-२३३-७ ॥
'The Gandharvas, flushed with success, saw the four brave sons of Pandu approaching the battlefield, seated on their chariots, and they all turned back to face the advancing combatants.' ॥ 3-233-7 ॥

nayavartanta tataH sarve gandharvA jitakAzinaH dRSTvA rathagatAna vIrAna pANDavAMza caturò raNe ॥ 3-233-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतांस तु विभ्राजतॊ दृष्ट्वा लॊकपालान इवॊद्यतान वयूढानीका वयतिष्ठन्त गन्धमादनवासिनः ॥ ३-२३३-८ ॥
'The dwellers of Gandhamadana, seeing the Pandavas, who looked like blazing guardians of the world, provoked to ire, stood ready in battle formation.' ॥ 3-233-8 ॥

tAMsa tu vibhrAjatò dRSTvA lòkapAlAna ivòdyatAna vayUDhAnIkA vayatiSThanta gandhamAdanavAsinaH ॥ 3-233-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptराज्ञस तु वचनं शरुत्वा धर्मराजस्य धीमतः करमेण मृदुना युद्धम उपक्रामन्त भारत ॥ ३-२३३-९ ॥
'And, O Bharata, in accordance with the wise counsel of King Yudhishthira, the initial encounter was but a skirmish.' ॥ 3-233-9 ॥

rAjJasa tu vacanaM zarutvA dharmarAjasya dhImataH karameNa mRdunA yuddhama upakrAmanta bhArata ॥ 3-233-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन तु गन्धर्वराजस्य सैनिका मन्दचेतसः शक्यन्ते मृदुना शरेयॊ परतिपादयितुं तदा ॥ ३-२३३-१० ॥
'However, the soldiers of the Gandharva king, being fierce-minded (not dull-witted), cannot be made to do what is right through gentle means at this time.' ॥ 3-233-10 ॥

na tu gandharvarAjasya sainikA mandacetasaH zakyante mRdunA zareyò paratipAdayituM tadA ॥ 3-233-10 ॥
