ततॊ दुर्यॊधनः परेष्यान आदिदेश सहानुजः आक्रीडावसथाः कषिप्रं करियन्ताम इति भारत ॥ ३-२२९-१६ ॥
'And, O monarch, upon reaching that spot, Duryodhana commanded his men, by thousands, saying, "Let the pleasure-houses be constructed without delay."' ॥ 3-229-16 ॥
english translation
tatò duryòdhanaH pareSyAna Adideza sahAnujaH AkrIDAvasathAH kaSipraM kariyantAma iti bhArata ॥ 3-229-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptते तथेत्य एव कौरव्यम उक्त्वा वचनकारिणः चिकीर्षन्तस तदाक्रीडाञ जग्मुर दवैतवनं सरः ॥ ३-२२९-१७ ॥
'Thus commanded, those executors of the king's orders, replying to the Kuru chief with the words, "So be it," went to the banks of the lake to construct the pleasure-houses.' ॥ 3-229-17 ॥

te tathetya eva kauravyama uktvA vacanakAriNaH cikIrSantasa tadAkrIDAJa jagmura davaitavanaM saraH ॥ 3-229-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसेनाग्रं धार्तराष्ट्रस्य पराप्तं दवैतवनं सरः परविशन्तं वनद्वारि गन्धर्वाः समवारयन ॥ ३-२२९-१८ ॥
'And as the chosen soldiers of Dhritarashtra's son, having reached the region of the lake, were about to enter the gates of the forest, a number of Gandharvas appeared and forbade them from entering.' ॥ 3-229-18 ॥

senAgraM dhArtarASTrasya parAptaM davaitavanaM saraH paravizantaM vanadvAri gandharvAH samavArayana ॥ 3-229-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्र गन्धर्वराजॊ वै पूर्वम एव विशां पते कुबेरभवनाद राजन्न आजगाम गणावृतः ॥ ३-२२९-१९ ॥
'For, O monarch, the king of the Gandharvas, accompanied by his followers, had arrived there earlier, coming from the abode of Kubera.' ॥ 3-229-19 ॥

tatra gandharvarAjò vai pUrvama eva vizAM pate kuberabhavanAda rAjanna AjagAma gaNAvRtaH ॥ 3-229-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptगणैर अप्सरसां चैव तरिदशानां तथात्मजैः विहारशीलः करीडार्थं तेन तत संवृतं सरः ॥ ३-२२९-२० ॥
'And the king of the Gandharvas had been accompanied by the various tribes of Apsaras, as well as the sons of the celestials. Intent on sport, he had come to that place for merriment, and having occupied it, he had closed it off to all others.' ॥ 3-229-20 ॥

gaNaira apsarasAM caiva taridazAnAM tathAtmajaiH vihArazIlaH karIDArthaM tena tata saMvRtaM saraH ॥ 3-229-20 ॥
