दुर्यॊधनः शकुनिः सूतपुत्रॊ; दुःशासनश चापि सुमन्दचेताः मधु परपश्यन्ति न तु परपातं; वृकॊदरं चैव धनंजयं च ॥ ३-२२५-२१ ॥

'Duryodhana, Shakuni, the charioteer's son (Karna), Duhshasana, and the feeble-minded - they see honey (sweet victory) but do not see their own destruction, nor do they see Vrikodara (Bhima) and Dhananjaya (Arjuna).' ॥ 3-225-21 ॥

duryòdhanaH zakuniH sUtaputrò; duHzAsanaza cApi sumandacetAH madhu parapazyanti na tu parapAtaM; vRkòdaraM caiva dhanaMjayaM ca ॥ 3-225-21 ॥

शुभाशुभं पुरुषः कर्मकृत्वा; परतीक्षते तस्य फलं सम कर्ता स तेन युज्यत्य अवशः फलेन; मॊक्षः कथं सयात पुरुषस्य तस्मात ॥ ३-२२५-२२ ॥

'A man, having acted rightly or wrongly, expects the fruit of those actions. However, the fruit, by binding him, overpowers him completely. How then can such a man attain salvation?' ॥ 3-225-22 ॥

zubhAzubhaM puruSaH karmakRtvA; paratIkSate tasya phalaM sama kartA sa tena yujyatya avazaH phalena; mòkSaH kathaM sayAta puruSasya tasmAta ॥ 3-225-22 ॥

कषेत्रे सुकृष्टे हय उपिते च बीजे; देवे च वर्षत्य ऋतुकालयुक्तम न सयात फलं तस्य कुतः परसिद्धिर; अन्यत्र दैवाद इति चिन्तयामि ॥ ३-२२५-२३ ॥

'Even if the soil is well-prepared, the seed is sown properly, and the rains come in their season, yet the crop may fail to grow. How then can one expect success, or glory? I think the cause lies elsewhere, in divine will.' ॥ 3-225-23 ॥

kaSetre sukRSTe haya upite ca bIje; deve ca varSatya RtukAlayuktama na sayAta phalaM tasya kutaH parasiddhira; anyatra daivAda iti cintayAmi ॥ 3-225-23 ॥

'Not well done by Matsya's son (Virata), nor by the Pandava who has acted, nor by me, who follows the dictates of a wicked son (Duryodhana) - this is how the final time (end) of the Kurus has come about.' ॥ 3-225-24 ॥

kRtaM matAkSeNa yathA na sAdhu sAdhu; paravRttena ca pANDavena mayA ca duSputra vazAnugena; yathA kurUNAma ayama antakAlaH ॥ 3-225-24 ॥

धरुवं परवास्यत्य असमीरितॊ ऽपि; धरुवं परजास्यत्य उत गर्भिणी या धरुवं दिनादौ रजनी परणाशस; तथा कषपादौ च दिनप्रणाशः ॥ ३-२२५-२५ ॥

'Certainly, one will exhale even when not breathing deeply; certainly, a pregnant woman will give birth; certainly, night perishes at the beginning of day, just as day perishes at the beginning of night.' ॥ 3-225-25 ॥

dharuvaM paravAsyatya asamIritò 'pi; dharuvaM parajAsyatya uta garbhiNI yA dharuvaM dinAdau rajanI paraNAzasa; tathA kaSapAdau ca dinapraNAzaH ॥ 3-225-25 ॥
