ततस तद दारुणं दृष्ट्वा कषुभितः शंकरस तदा उमा चैव महाभागा देवाश च समहर्षयः ॥ ३-२२१-३१ ॥
'Then, witnessing this terrible catastrophe, Sankara, along with the esteemed Uma, and the celestials with the great sages, were greatly disturbed.' ॥ 3-221-31 ॥
english translation
ततस तेषु परमूढेषु पर्वताम्बुद संनिभम नानाप्रहरणं घॊरम अदृश्यत महद बलम ॥ ३-२२१-३२ ॥
'As they fell into this state of confusion, a fierce and mighty host appeared before them, armed with various weapons, resembling a mass of clouds and rocks.' ॥ 3-221-32 ॥
english translation
तद धि घॊरम असंख्येयं गर्जच च विविधा गिरः अभ्यद्रवद रणे देवान भगवन्तं च शंकरम ॥ ३-२२१-३३ ॥
'Those terrible and countless beings, speaking in various tongues, directed their movements toward the place where Sankara and the celestials stood.' ॥ 3-221-33 ॥

तैर विसृष्टान्य अनीकेषु बाणजालान्य अनेकशः पर्वताश च शतघ्न्यश च परासाश च परिघा गदाः ॥ ३-२२१-३४ ॥
'They hurled flights of arrows in all directions into the ranks of the celestial army, along with masses of rock, maces, sataghnis, prasas, and parighas.' ॥ 3-221-34 ॥

निपतद्भिश च तैर घॊरैर देवानीकं महायुधैः कषणेन वयद्रवत सर्वं विमुखं चाप्य अदृश्यत ॥ ३-२२१-३५ ॥
'The celestial army was thrown into confusion by a shower of these terrible weapons, and their ranks wavered.' ॥ 3-221-35 ॥
