[वा] एवं स पुरुषव्याघ्र शाल्वॊ राज्ञां महारिपुः युध्यमानॊ मया संख्ये वियद अभ्यागमत पुनः ॥ ३-२२-१ ॥
'Vasudeva said, "O mighty monarch, my great adversary, King Salwa, once more confronted me in battle, rising into the sky."' ॥ 3-22-1 ॥
english translation
ततः शतघ्नीश च महागदाश च; दीप्तंश च शूलान मुसलान असींश च चिक्षेप रॊषान मयि मन्दबुद्धिः; शाल्वॊ महाराज जयाभिकाङ्क्षी ॥ ३-२२-२ ॥
'Driven by his desire for victory, the wicked Salwa launched a barrage of weapons—Sataghnis, formidable maces, blazing lances, and heavy clubs—toward me.' ॥ 3-22-2 ॥

तान आशुगैर आपततॊ ऽहम आशु; निवार्य तूर्णं खगमान ख एव दविधा तरिधा चाच्छिनम आशु मुखैस; ततॊ ऽनतरिक्षे निनदॊ बभूव ॥ ३-२२-३ ॥
'Those swiftly falling (arrows), I quickly Warded off, and the fast-flying ones in the sky itself I swiftly cut into two or three pieces with my arrow-heads; Then a great sound arose in the sky.' ॥ 3-22-3 ॥
english translation
ततः शतसहस्रेण शराणां नतपर्वणाम दारुकं वाजिनश चैव रथं च समवाकिरत ॥ ३-२२-४ ॥
'Salwa, with relentless fury, showered my charioteer Daruka, my horses, and my chariot with a multitude of straight shafts.' ॥ 3-22-4 ॥
english translation
ततॊ माम अब्रवीद वीर दारुकॊ विह्वलन्न इव सथातव्यम इति तिष्ठामि शाल्व बाणप्रपीडितः ॥ ३-२२-५ ॥
'Then, O hero, Daruka spoke to me, as if faltering, "I must stand firm," he said, "I stand, though afflicted by Shalva's arrows."' ॥ 3-22-5 ॥
