[मार्क] गुरुभिर नियमैर युक्तॊ भरतॊ नाम पावकः अग्निः पुष्टिमतिर नाम तुष्टः पुष्टिं परयच्छति भरत्य एष परजाः सर्वास ततॊ भरत उच्यते ।। ३-२११-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Markandeya continued, "The fire known as Bharata was bound by the strict rules of asceticism. Pushtimati is another name for this fire, for when it is appeased, it bestows prosperity (pushti) upon all creatures. For this reason, it is called Bharata, meaning the Cherisher."' ।। 3-211-1 ।।

english translation

[mArka] gurubhira niyamaira yuktò bharatò nAma pAvakaH agniH puSTimatira nAma tuSTaH puSTiM parayacchati bharatya eSa parajAH sarvAsa tatò bharata ucyate || 3-211-1 ||

hk transliteration

अग्निर यस तु शिवॊ नाम शक्तिपूजा परश च सः दुःखार्तानां स सर्वेषां शिव कृत सततं शिवः ।। ३-२११-२ ।।

sanskrit

'And that other fire, named Siva, is devoted to the worship of Sakti, the presiding force of Nature. Because he continually alleviates the suffering of all creatures afflicted with misery, he is called Siva, the giver of good.' ।। 3-211-2 ।।

english translation

agnira yasa tu zivò nAma zaktipUjA paraza ca saH duHkhArtAnAM sa sarveSAM ziva kRta satataM zivaH || 3-211-2 ||

hk transliteration

तपसस तु फलं दृष्ट्वा संप्रवृद्धं तपॊ महत उद्धर्तु कामॊ मतिमान पुत्रॊ जज्ञे पुरंदरः ।। ३-२११-३ ।।

sanskrit

'And with the acquisition of great ascetic merit by Tapa, an intelligent son named Puranda was born to inherit it.' ।। 3-211-3 ।।

english translation

tapasasa tu phalaM dRSTvA saMpravRddhaM tapò mahata uddhartu kAmò matimAna putrò jajJe puraMdaraH || 3-211-3 ||

hk transliteration

ऊष्मा चैवॊष्मणॊ जज्ञे सॊ ऽगनिर भूतेषु लक्ष्यते अग्निश चापि मनुर नाम पराजापत्यम अकारयत ।। ३-२११-४ ।।

sanskrit

'Another son, named Ushma, was also born. This fire is observed in the vapor of all matter. A third son, Manu, was born, who officiated as Prajapati.' ।। 3-211-4 ।।

english translation

USmA caivòSmaNò jajJe sò 'ganira bhUteSu lakSyate agniza cApi manura nAma parAjApatyama akArayata || 3-211-4 ||

hk transliteration

शम्भुम अग्निम अथ पराहुर बराह्मणा वेदपारगाः आवसथ्यं दविजाः पराहुर दीप्तम अग्निं महाप्रभम ।। ३-२११-५ ।।

sanskrit

'The Brahmanas, learned in the Vedas, speak of the exploits of the fire Shambhu. Then, the bright and resplendent Avasathya fire is described by them.' ।। 3-211-5 ।।

english translation

zambhuma agnima atha parAhura barAhmaNA vedapAragAH AvasathyaM davijAH parAhura dIptama agniM mahAprabhama || 3-211-5 ||
