[वा] आनर्तनगरं मुक्तं ततॊ ऽहम अगमं तदा महाक्रतौ राजसूये निवृत्ते नृपते तव ॥ ३-२१-१ ॥
'Vasudeva said: "After Salwa had departed from the city of the Anarttas, I returned, O king, following the completion of your great Rajasuya sacrifice."' ॥ 3-21-1 ॥

अपश्यं दवारकां चाहं महाराज हतत्विषम निःस्वाध्याय वषट्कारां निर्भूषण वरस्त्रियम ॥ ३-२१-२ ॥
'Upon my arrival, I found Dwaraka stripped of its former splendor. The air was devoid of the sacred sounds of Vedic chants and sacrificial rites, and the city felt lifeless. The noble women were without their ornaments, and the once-beautiful gardens stood barren.' ॥ 3-21-2 ॥

अनभिज्ञेय रूपाणि दवारकॊपवनानि च दृष्ट्वा शङ्कॊपपन्नॊ ऽहम अपृच्छं हृदिकात्मजम ॥ ३-२१-३ ॥
'I saw that the gardens of Dwaraka had lost their familiar beauty, their forms unrecognizable. Struck with doubt, I asked the son of Hridika.' ॥ 3-21-3 ॥

अस्वस्थनरनारीकम इदं वृष्णिपुरं भृषम किम इदं नरशार्दूल शरॊतुम इच्छामहे वयम ॥ ३-२१-४ ॥
'This city of the Vrishnis, filled with men and women so distressed—what has happened here, O tiger among men? We wish to know the cause.' ॥ 3-21-4 ॥

एवम उक्तस तु स मया विस्तरेणेदम अब्रवीत रॊधं मॊक्षं च शाल्वेन हार्दिक्यॊ राजसत्तम ॥ ३-२१-५ ॥
'O best of kings, upon my inquiry, the son of Hridika, Kritavarman, narrated to me in detail the invasion of the city by Salwa and his eventual departure.' ॥ 3-21-5 ॥
