अनादि निधनं जन्तुम आत्मयॊनिं सदाव्ययम अनौपम्यम अमूर्तं च भगवान आह बुद्धिमान तपॊ मूलम इदं सर्वं यन मां विप्रानुपृच्छसि ॥ ३-२०२-१६ ॥

'Such a person is described by the omnipotent, all-knowing Spirit as being without beginning or end, self-existent, immutable, incorporeal, and incomparable. This, O Brahmana, is the essence of what you have inquired about, and it is the result of true self-discipline. And this self-discipline can only be acquired by subduing the senses.' ॥ 3-202-16 ॥

anAdi nidhanaM jantuma AtmayòniM sadAvyayama anaupamyama amUrtaM ca bhagavAna Aha buddhimAna tapò mUlama idaM sarvaM yana mAM viprAnupRcchasi ॥ 3-202-16 ॥

इन्द्रियाण्य एव तत सर्वं यत सवर्गनरकाव उभौ निगृहीत विसृष्टानि सवर्गाय नरकाय च ॥ ३-२०२-१७ ॥

'It cannot be otherwise: both heaven and hell are determined by our senses. When the senses are subdued, they lead to heaven; when indulged, they lead to ruin.' ॥ 3-202-17 ॥

indriyANya eva tata sarvaM yata savarganarakAva ubhau nigRhIta visRSTAni savargAya narakAya ca ॥ 3-202-17 ॥

एष यॊगविधिः कृत्स्नॊ यावद इन्द्रियधारणम एतन मूलं हि तपसः कृत्स्नस्य नरकस्य च ॥ ३-२०२-१८ ॥

'The subjugation of the senses is the supreme means of attaining spiritual enlightenment. Our senses are both the root of our spiritual progress and the cause of our spiritual downfall.' ॥ 3-202-18 ॥

eSa yògavidhiH kRtsnò yAvada indriyadhAraNama etana mUlaM hi tapasaH kRtsnasya narakasya ca ॥ 3-202-18 ॥

इन्द्रियाणां परसङ्गेन दॊषम ऋच्छत्य असंशयम संनियम्य तु तान्य एव ततः सिद्धिम अवाप्नुते ॥ ३-२०२-१९ ॥

'By indulging in the senses, a person undoubtedly acquires vices, but by subduing them, he attains salvation. The self-restrained individual, who gains mastery over the six senses inherent in our nature, remains untainted by sin, and thus, evil holds no power over him.' ॥ 3-202-19 ॥

षण्णाम आत्मनि नित्यानाम ऐश्वर्यं यॊ ऽधिगच्छति न स पापैः कुतॊ ऽनर्थैर युज्यते विजितेन्द्रियः ॥ ३-२०२-२० ॥

'Man's corporeal body is likened to a chariot, his soul to the charioteer, and his senses to the horses. A skilled person navigates life without confusion, much like a calm charioteer with well-trained horses.' ॥ 3-202-20 ॥

SaNNAma Atmani nityAnAma aizvaryaM yò 'dhigacchati na sa pApaiH kutò 'narthaira yujyate vijitendriyaH ॥ 3-202-20 ॥
