शिश्नॊदर कृते ऽपराज्ञः करॊति विघसं बहु मॊहरागसमाक्रान्त इन्द्रियार्थ वशानुगः ।। ३-२-६१ ।।

sanskrit

'Moved by ignorance and passion, and enslaved by their own senses, even fools perform many seemingly meritorious acts to satisfy their desires in the afterlife.' ।। 3-2-61 ।।

english translation

ziznòdara kRte 'parAjJaH karòti vighasaM bahu mòharAgasamAkrAnta indriyArtha vazAnugaH || 3-2-61 ||

हरियते बुध्यमानॊ ऽपि नरॊ हारिभिर इन्द्रियैः विमूढसंज्ञॊ दुष्टाश्वैर उद्भ्रान्तैर इव सारथिः ।। ३-२-६२ ।।

sanskrit

'Like a charioteer who has lost his senses and is led astray by unruly and wicked horses, these men are misled by their seductive senses, despite having their eyes wide open.' ।। 3-2-62 ।।

english translation

hariyate budhyamAnò 'pi narò hAribhira indriyaiH vimUDhasaMjJò duSTAzvaira udbhrAntaira iva sArathiH || 3-2-62 ||

षडिन्द्रियाणि विषयं समागच्छन्ति वै यदा तदा परादुर्भवत्य एषां पूर्वसंकल्पजं मनः ।। ३-२-६३ ।।

sanskrit

'When any of the six senses encounter its particular object, desire arises in the heart to enjoy that object.' ।। 3-2-63 ।।

english translation

SaDindriyANi viSayaM samAgacchanti vai yadA tadA parAdurbhavatya eSAM pUrvasaMkalpajaM manaH || 3-2-63 ||

मनॊ यस्येन्द्रिय गरामविषयं परति चॊदितम तस्यौत्सुक्यं संभवति परवृत्तिश चॊपजायते ।। ३-२-६४ ।।

sanskrit

'To one whose mind is stirred by the objects of the senses, excitement arises, leading to an increased eagerness and the initiation of action.' ।। 3-2-64 ।।

english translation

manò yasyendriya garAmaviSayaM parati còditama tasyautsukyaM saMbhavati paravRttiza còpajAyate || 3-2-64 ||

ततः संकल्पवीर्येण कामेन विषयेषुभिः विद्धः पतति लॊभाग्नौ जयॊतिर लॊभात पतंगवत ।। ३-२-६५ ।।

sanskrit

'Ultimately, just as an insect is drawn to a flame by its love for light and falls into the fire, so does a person, driven by desire, fall into the flames of temptation, pierced by the arrows of the desired object and consumed by the resolve that originated from that desire.' ।। 3-2-65 ।।

tataH saMkalpavIryeNa kAmena viSayeSubhiH viddhaH patati lòbhAgnau jayòtira lòbhAta pataMgavata || 3-2-65 ||
