मनसॊ दुःखमूलं तु सनेह इत्य उपलभ्यते सनेहात तु सज्जते जन्तुर दुःखयॊगम उपैति च ।। ३-२-२६ ।।

sanskrit

'Affection appears to be the root of all mental sorrow. It is the affection that causes every creature to suffer and brings about every form of woe.' ।। 3-2-26 ।।

english translation

manasò duHkhamUlaM tu saneha itya upalabhyate sanehAta tu sajjate jantura duHkhayògama upaiti ca || 3-2-26 ||

सनेहमूलानि दुःखानि सनेहजानि भयानि च शॊकहर्षौ तथायासः सर्वं सनेहात परवर्तते ।। ३-२-२७ ।।

sanskrit

'Sorrows are rooted in attachment, Fears are born from attachment. Grief and joy, as well as exertion, All originate from attachment.' ।। 3-2-27 ।।

english translation

sanehamUlAni duHkhAni sanehajAni bhayAni ca zòkaharSau tathAyAsaH sarvaM sanehAta paravartate || 3-2-27 ||

सनेहत करण रागश च परजज्ञे वैषयस तथा अश्रेयस्काव उभाव एतौ पूर्वस तत्र गुरुः समृतः ।। ३-२-२८ ।।

sanskrit

'From affection arise all desires and the pursuit of worldly goods. Both of these are sources of evil, though desires are worse than the pursuit of material possessions.' ।। 3-2-28 ।।

english translation

sanehata karaNa rAgaza ca parajajJe vaiSayasa tathA azreyaskAva ubhAva etau pUrvasa tatra guruH samRtaH || 3-2-28 ||

कॊटराग्निर यथाशेषं समूलं पादपं दहेत धर्मार्थिनं तथाल्पॊ ऽपि रागदॊषॊ विनाशयेत ।। ३-२-२९ ।।

sanskrit

'Just as a small ember can burn a tree down to its roots, so too does even a small amount of affection destroy both virtue and benefit.' ।। 3-2-29 ।।

english translation

kòTarAgnira yathAzeSaM samUlaM pAdapaM daheta dharmArthinaM tathAlpò 'pi rAgadòSò vinAzayeta || 3-2-29 ||

विप्रयॊगे न तु तयागी दॊषदर्शी समागमात विरागं भजते जन्तुर निर्वैरॊ निष्परिग्रहः ।। ३-२-३० ।।

sanskrit

'One who merely withdraws from worldly possessions cannot be considered to have truly renounced the world. True renunciation is achieved by someone who, despite being in contact with the world, recognizes its faults. A person who is free from all passions and dependent on nothing has genuinely renounced the world.' ।। 3-2-30 ।।

viprayòge na tu tayAgI dòSadarzI samAgamAta virAgaM bhajate jantura nirvairò niSparigrahaH || 3-2-30 ||
