शिष्टाचारे मनॊ कृत्वा परतिष्ठाप्य च सर्वशः याम अयं लभते तुष्टिं सा न शक्या हय अतॊ ऽनयथा ।। ३-१९८-६१ ।।

sanskrit

'The reputation earned by one who wholeheartedly embraces and diligently practices virtue can only be attained through the consistent observance of these four principles.' ।। 3-198-61 ।।

english translation

ziSTAcAre manò kRtvA paratiSThApya ca sarvazaH yAma ayaM labhate tuSTiM sA na zakyA haya atò 'nayathA || 3-198-61 ||

वेदस्यॊपनिषत सत्यं सत्यस्यॊपनिषद दमः दमस्यॊपनिषत तयागः शिष्टाचारेषु नित्यदा ।। ३-१९८-६२ ।।

sanskrit

'The essence of the Vedas is Truth; the essence of Truth is self-control, and the essence of self-control is abstinence from worldly pleasures. All of these qualities are evident in virtuous conduct.' ।। 3-198-62 ।।

english translation

vedasyòpaniSata satyaM satyasyòpaniSada damaH damasyòpaniSata tayAgaH ziSTAcAreSu nityadA || 3-198-62 ||

ये तु धर्मम असूयन्ते बुद्धिमॊहान्विता नराः अपथा गच्छतां तेषाम अनुयातापि पीड्यते ।। ३-१९८-६३ ।।

'Those who follow the deluded fools, who mock the righteous paths and practices of faith, are led into ruin, as they tread the sinful way.' ।। 3-198-63 ।।

english translation

ye tu dharmama asUyante buddhimòhAnvitA narAH apathA gacchatAM teSAma anuyAtApi pIDyate || 3-198-63 ||

ये तु शिष्टाः सुनियताः शरुतित्यागपरायणाः धर्म्यं पन्थानम आरूढाः सत्यधर्मपरायणाः ।। ३-१९८-६४ ।।

'Those who are virtuous, committed to observing vows, and devoted to the teachings of the scriptures, who abstain from worldly pleasures and follow the path of righteousness.' ।। 3-198-64 ।।

ye tu ziSTAH suniyatAH zarutityAgaparAyaNAH dharmyaM panthAnama ArUDhAH satyadharmaparAyaNAH || 3-198-64 ||

नियच्छन्ति परां बुद्धिं शिष्टाचारान्विता नराः उपाध्याय मते युक्ताः सथित्या धर्मार्थदर्शिनः ।। ३-१९८-६५ ।।

'People who follow proper conduct, Who are guided by their teacher's wisdom, Who are established in righteousness and see its purpose, Restrain their higher intellect (control their minds).' ।। 3-198-65 ।।

niyacchanti parAM buddhiM ziSTAcArAnvitA narAH upAdhyAya mate yuktAH sathityA dharmArthadarzinaH || 3-198-65 ||
