स गत्वैवं तं राजानम अब्रवीत ॥ ३-१९०-५६ ॥
'Thereupon, the disciple Atreya, going to the king, spoke to him as instructed.' ॥ 3-190-56 ॥

तं राजा परत्युवाच राज्ञाम एतद वाहनम अनर्हा बराह्मणा रत्नानाम एवंविधानाम किं च बराह्मणानाम अश्वैः कार्यम साधु परतिगम्यताम इति ॥ ३-१९०-५७ ॥
'The king replied, saying, 'This pair of steeds is fit for kings. Brahmanas do not deserve to possess jewels of such value. What business have Brahmanas with horses? Return them peacefully!'' ॥ 3-190-57 ॥

स गत्वैवम उपाध्यायायाचष्ट ॥ ३-१९०-५८ ॥
'And Atreya, having been thus addressed by the king.' ॥ 3-190-58 ॥

तच छरुत्वा वचनम अप्रियं वामदेवः करॊधपरीतात्मा सवयम एव राजानम अभिगम्याश्वार्थम अभ्यचॊदयत न चादाद राजा ॥ ३-१९०-५९ ॥
'He returned and informed his preceptor of all that had transpired. Upon hearing this disheartening news, Vamadeva's heart was filled with rage. He then went in person to the king and demanded his steeds, but the king refused to give them to the Rishi.' ॥ 3-190-59 ॥

[वाम] परयच्छ वाम्यौ मम पार्थिव तवं; कृतं हि ते कार्यम अन्यैर अशक्यम मा तवा वधीद वरुणॊ घॊरपाशैर; बरह्मक्षत्रस्यान्तरे वर्तमानः ॥ ३-१९०-६० ॥
'Vamadeva said, 'O lord of the earth, return to me my Vami horses. Through them, you have achieved a feat that seemed almost impossible for you. Do not, O king, subject yourself to death by Varuna's dreadful noose by violating the duties of Brahmanas and Kshatriyas.'' ॥ 3-190-60 ॥
