[मार्क] अत्रैव च सरस्वत्या गीतं परपुरंजय पृष्टया मुनिना वीर शृणु तर्क्षेण धीमता ।। ३-१८४-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Markandeya continued, 'O conqueror of hostile cities, in this regard, Saraswati, when questioned by the wise sage Tarkshya, spoke thus. Listen attentively to her words!'' ।। 3-184-1 ।।

english translation

[mArka] atraiva ca sarasvatyA gItaM parapuraMjaya pRSTayA muninA vIra zRNu tarkSeNa dhImatA || 3-184-1 ||

hk transliteration

[तार्क्स्य] किं नु शरेयॊ पुरुषस्येह भद्रे; कथं कुर्वन न चयवते सवधर्मात आचक्ष्व मे चारुसर्वाङ्गि सर्वं; तवयानुशिष्टॊ न चयवेयं सवधर्मात ।। ३-१८४-२ ।।

sanskrit

'Tarkshya asked, 'O exalted lady, what is the best course of action for a man in this world? How should he behave so as not to stray from the path of virtue? Please, O graceful one, tell me all this, so that, guided by your wisdom, I may remain steadfast on the path of righteousness.'' ।। 3-184-2 ।।

english translation

[tArksya] kiM nu zareyò puruSasyeha bhadre; kathaM kurvana na cayavate savadharmAta AcakSva me cArusarvAGgi sarvaM; tavayAnuziSTò na cayaveyaM savadharmAta || 3-184-2 ||

hk transliteration

कथं चाग्निं जुहुयां पूजये वा; कस्मिन काले केन धर्मॊ न नश्येत एतत सर्वं सुभगे परब्रवीहि; यथा लॊकान विरजः संचरेयम ।। ३-१८४-३ ।।

sanskrit

'When and how should one offer oblations to the sacred fire, and when must one perform worship so that virtue is not compromised? O excellent lady, kindly tell me all this, so that I may live in this world free from passions, cravings, and desires.' ।। 3-184-3 ।।

english translation

kathaM cAgniM juhuyAM pUjaye vA; kasmina kAle kena dharmò na nazyeta etata sarvaM subhage parabravIhi; yathA lòkAna virajaH saMcareyama || 3-184-3 ||

hk transliteration

[मार्क] एवं पृष्टा परीतियुक्तेन तेन; शुश्रूषुम ईक्ष्यॊत्तम बुद्धियुक्तम तार्क्ष्यं विप्रं धर्मयुक्तं हितं च; सरस्वती वाक्यम इदं बभाषे ।। ३-१८४-४ ।।

'Markandeya continued, "Thus questioned by the joyful Muni, who was eager to learn and endowed with great intelligence, Saraswati spoke these virtuous and beneficial words to the Brahmana Tarkshya."' ।। 3-184-4 ।।

english translation

[mArka] evaM pRSTA parItiyuktena tena; zuzrUSuma IkSyòttama buddhiyuktama tArkSyaM vipraM dharmayuktaM hitaM ca; sarasvatI vAkyama idaM babhASe || 3-184-4 ||

hk transliteration

[सरस] यॊ बरह्म जानाति यथाप्रदेशं; सवाध्यायनित्यः शुचिर अप्रमत्तः स वै पुरॊ देवपुरस्य गन्ता; सहामरैः पराप्नुयात परीतियॊगम ।। ३-१८४-५ ।।

sanskrit

'Saraswati said, "He who is devoted to the study of the Vedas, and with purity and equanimity perceives the Supreme Divine in its rightful place, ascends to the celestial realms and attains the highest bliss, united with the Immortals."' ।। 3-184-5 ।।

english translation

[sarasa] yò barahma jAnAti yathApradezaM; savAdhyAyanityaH zucira apramattaH sa vai purò devapurasya gantA; sahAmaraiH parApnuyAta parItiyògama || 3-184-5 ||
