जन्तॊःप्रेतस्य कौन्तेय गतिः सवैर इह कर्मभिः पराज्ञस्य हीनबुद्धेश च कर्म कॊशः कव तिष्ठति ।। ३-१८१-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'Coveting everything, they became godless and indifferent in mind, O son of Kunti! The fate of every being after death is determined by their actions in this world.' ।। 3-181-21 ।।

english translation

jantòHpretasya kaunteya gatiH savaira iha karmabhiH parAjJasya hInabuddheza ca karma kòzaH kava tiSThati || 3-181-21 ||

कवस्थस तत समुपाश्नाति सुकृतं यदि वेतरत इति ते दर्शनं यच च तत्राप्य अनुनयं शृणु ।। ३-१८१-२२ ।।

sanskrit

'Where does one attain the results of good deeds, if they are not exhausted? Listen, O son, as I explain the vision that you seek, and also the path to that very end.' ।। 3-181-22 ।।

english translation

kavasthasa tata samupAznAti sukRtaM yadi vetarata iti te darzanaM yaca ca tatrApya anunayaM zRNu || 3-181-22 ||

अयम आदि शरीरेण देव सृष्टेन मानवः शुभानाम अशुभानां च कुरुते संचयं महत ।। ३-१८१-२३ ।।

'The soul, with its subtle original body created by God, accumulates a vast store of virtue and vice.' ।। 3-181-23 ।।

english translation

ayama Adi zarIreNa deva sRSTena mAnavaH zubhAnAma azubhAnAM ca kurute saMcayaM mahata || 3-181-23 ||

आयुषॊ ऽनते परहायेदं कषीणप्रायं कलेवरम संभवत्य एव युगपद यॊनौ नास्त्य अन्तरा भवः ।। ३-१८१-२४ ।।

'The wise man, through spiritual insight, understands that all creatures are bound to an unchangeable fate by the force of the destroyer, unable to escape the consequences of their actions, whether in good or evil fortune.' ।। 3-181-24 ।।

english translation

AyuSò 'nate parahAyedaM kaSINaprAyaM kalevarama saMbhavatya eva yugapada yònau nAstya antarA bhavaH || 3-181-24 ||

तत्रास्य सवकृतं कर्म छायेवानुगतं सदा फलत्य अथ सुखार्हॊ वा दुःखार्हॊ वापि जायते ।। ३-१८१-२५ ।।

'There, his own actions, ever following him like a shadow, yield their fruit—either bringing happiness or sorrow, depending on their nature.' ।। 3-181-25 ।।

tatrAsya savakRtaM karma chAyevAnugataM sadA phalatya atha sukhArhò vA duHkhArhò vApi jAyate || 3-181-25 ||
