[वै] निदाघान्तकरः कालः सर्वभूतसुखावहः तत्रैव वसतां तेषां परावृट समभिपद्यत ॥ ३-१७९-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, "While they were residing there, the rainy season arrived—a time that brings relief from the heat and is a source of delight to all living beings."' ॥ 3-179-1 ॥
english translation
[vai] nidAghAntakaraH kAlaH sarvabhUtasukhAvahaH tatraiva vasatAM teSAM parAvRTa samabhipadyata ॥ 3-179-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptछादयन्तॊ महाघॊषाः खं दिशश च बलाहकाः परववर्षुर दिवारात्रम असिताः सततं तदा ॥ ३-१७९-२ ॥
'Then, the black clouds, rumbling fiercely, covered the sky and the cardinal directions, relentlessly pouring rain both day and night.' ॥ 3-179-2 ॥

chAdayantò mahAghòSAH khaM dizaza ca balAhakAH paravavarSura divArAtrama asitAH satataM tadA ॥ 3-179-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतपात्यय निकेताश च शतशॊ ऽथ सहस्रशः अपेतार्क परभा जालाः सविद्युद्विमलप्रभाः ॥ ३-१७९-३ ॥
'These clouds, numbering in the hundreds and thousands, appeared like domes during the rainy season. The effulgence of the sun vanished from the earth, replaced by the pure radiance of lightning.' ॥ 3-179-3 ॥

tapAtyaya niketAza ca zatazò 'tha sahasrazaH apetArka parabhA jAlAH savidyudvimalaprabhAH ॥ 3-179-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविरूढ शष्पा पृथिवी मत्तदंश सरीसृपा बभूव पयसा सिक्ता शान्तधूमरजॊ ऽरुणा ॥ ३-१७९-४ ॥
'The earth, bathed in rain, became delightful to all, overgrown with grass, teeming with gnats and reptiles in their joy, and enveloped in a serene calm.' ॥ 3-179-4 ॥

virUDha zaSpA pRthivI mattadaMza sarIsRpA babhUva payasA siktA zAntadhUmarajò 'ruNA ॥ 3-179-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन सम परज्ञायते किं चिद अम्भसा समवस्तृते समं वा विषमं वापि नद्यॊ वा सथावराणि वा ॥ ३-१७९-५ ॥
'When the waters had submerged everything, it was impossible to tell whether the ground was even or uneven, or if there were rivers, trees, or hills.' ॥ 3-179-5 ॥

na sama parajJAyate kiM cida ambhasA samavastRte samaM vA viSamaM vApi nadyò vA sathAvarANi vA ॥ 3-179-5 ॥
