तस्मिन गिरौ परस्रवणॊपपन्ने; हिमॊत्तरीयारुण पाण्डुसानौ विशाख यूपं समुपेत्य चक्रुस; तदा निवासं पुरुषप्रवीराः ॥ ३-१७४-१६ ॥
'On that mountain, full of springs/streams, With slopes that were reddish-pale with snow as its upper garment, Having reached Vishakha-yupa, the heroic men Made their dwelling there.' ॥ 3-174-16 ॥

वराहनानामृगपक्षिजुष्टं; महद वनं चैत्ररथ परकाशम शिवेन यात्वा मृगया परधानाः; संवत्सरं तत्र वने विजह्रुः ॥ ३-१७४-१७ ॥

तत्राससादातिबलं भुजंगं; कषुधार्दितं मृत्युम इवॊग्ररूपम वृकॊदरः पर्वत कन्दरायां; विषादमॊहव्यथितान्तर आत्मा ॥ ३-१७४-१८ ॥
'Addicted to hunting as their principal pursuit, the sons of Pritha peacefully resided in that forest for a year. There, in a mountain cavern, Vrikodara, his heart troubled by grief and distraction, encountered a mighty serpent, famished and fierce, its appearance as menacing as death itself.' ॥ 3-174-18 ॥

दवीपॊ ऽभवद यत्र वृकॊदरस्य; युधिष्ठिरॊ धर्मभृतां वरिष्ठः अमॊक्षयद यस तम अनन्त तेजा; गराहेण संवेष्ठित सर्वगात्रम ॥ ३-१७४-१९ ॥
'In this moment of peril, Yudhishthira, the noblest of the righteous, became the protector of Vrikodara. With his boundless strength, he freed Bhima, whose entire body had been ensnared by the serpent's coils.' ॥ 3-174-19 ॥

ते दवादशं वर्षम अथॊपयान्तं; वने विहर्तुं कुरवः परतीताः तस्माद वनाच चैत्ररथ परकाशाच; छरिया जवलन्तस तपसा च युक्ताः ॥ ३-१७४-२० ॥
'When the twelfth year of their forest exile arrived, the scions of the Kuru race, radiant with glory and engaged in ascetic practices, always devoted to archery, joyfully left the forest resembling Chitraratha.' ॥ 3-174-20 ॥
