ततश च यात्वा मरुधन्व पार्श्वं; सदा धनुर्वेद रतिप्रधानाः सरस्वतीम एत्य निवासकामाः; सरस ततॊ दवैतवनं परतीयुः ।। ३-१७४-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'They journeyed to the borders of the desert, yearning to settle by the Saraswati River. From its banks, they made their way to the sacred lake of Dwaitabana.' ।। 3-174-21 ।।

english translation

tataza ca yAtvA marudhanva pArzvaM; sadA dhanurveda ratipradhAnAH sarasvatIma etya nivAsakAmAH; sarasa tatò davaitavanaM paratIyuH || 3-174-21 ||

hk transliteration

समीक्ष्य तान दैतवने निविष्टान; निवासिनस तत्र ततॊ ऽभिजग्मुः तपॊ दमाचार समाधियुक्तास; तृणॊद पात्राहरणाश्म कुट्टाः ।। ३-१७४-२२ ।।

sanskrit

'Upon seeing them enter Dwaitabana, the ascetics of the place, devoted to austerities, religious rites, and self-discipline, who lived on food ground with stones, having acquired grass mats and water vessels, approached them, engaged in deep meditation and devout practices.' ।। 3-174-22 ।।

english translation

samIkSya tAna daitavane niviSTAna; nivAsinasa tatra tatò 'bhijagmuH tapò damAcAra samAdhiyuktAsa; tRNòda pAtrAharaNAzma kuTTAH || 3-174-22 ||

hk transliteration

पलक्षाक्ष रौहीतक वेतसाश च; सनुहा बदर्यः खदिराः शिरीषाः बिल्वेङ्गुदाः पीलु शमी करीराः; सरस्वती तीररुहा बभूवुः ।। ३-१७४-२३ ।।

sanskrit

'On the banks of the Saraswati, the sacred fig, rudraksha, rohitaka, cane, jujube, catechu, sirisha, bel, inguda, karira, pilu, and sami trees flourished, each contributing to the sanctity and beauty of the river's shores.' ।। 3-174-23 ।।

english translation

palakSAkSa rauhItaka vetasAza ca; sanuhA badaryaH khadirAH zirISAH bilveGgudAH pIlu zamI karIrAH; sarasvatI tIraruhA babhUvuH || 3-174-23 ||

तां यक्षगन्धर्वमहर्षिकान्ताम; आयाग भूताम इव देवतानाम सरस्वतीं परीतियुताश चरन्तः; सुखं विजह्रुर नरदेव पुत्राः ।। ३-१७४-२४ ।।

sanskrit

'Wandering contentedly near the Saraswati, which seemed to be the abode of the celestials and the favored retreat of Yakshas, Gandharvas, and Maharshis, the sons of kings dwelt there in joy and peace.' ।। 3-174-24 ।।

english translation

tAM yakSagandharvamaharSikAntAma; AyAga bhUtAma iva devatAnAma sarasvatIM parItiyutAza carantaH; sukhaM vijahrura naradeva putrAH || 3-174-24 ||
