परकीर्णकेश्यॊ वयथिताः कुरर्य इव दुःखिताः पेतुः पुत्रान पितॄन भरातॄञ शॊचमाना महीतले ॥ ३-१७०-५६ ॥
'Mourning for their sons, brothers, and fathers, they fell to the ground, crying out in distress.' ॥ 3-170-56 ॥
english translation
रुदन्त्यॊ दीनकण्ठ्यस ता विनदन्त्यॊ हतेश्वराः उरांसि पाणिभिर घनन्त्यः परस्रस्तस्रग्वि भूषणाः ॥ ३-१७०-५७ ॥
'Weeping with voices choked with grief, they cried out for their slain lords. Beating their chests with their hands, their garlands and ornaments falling off, they lamented.' ॥ 3-170-57 ॥

तच छॊकयुक्तम अश्रीकं दुःखदैन्य समाहतम न बभौ दानव पुरं हतत्विट्कं हतेश्वरम ॥ ३-१७०-५८ ॥
'And that city of the Danavas, once resembling the city of the Gandharvas, was now filled with lamentations, stricken with sorrow and distress.' ॥ 3-170-58 ॥

गन्धर्वनगराकारं हतनागम इव हरदम शुष्कवृक्षम इवारण्यम अदृश्यम अभवत पुरम ॥ ३-१७०-५९ ॥
'The city, once resembling the abode of Gandharvas, now appeared like a forest of dry trees, or like a wilderness devoid of life, having lost its former glory, like a serpent struck down. ' ॥ 3-170-59 ॥

मां तु संहृष्टमनसं कषिप्रं मातलिर आनयत देवराजस्य भवनं कृतकर्माणम आहवात ॥ ३-१७०-६० ॥
'And when I had completed the task, Matali, in a state of great delight, swiftly took me from the battlefield to the abode of the lord of the celestials.' ॥ 3-170-60 ॥
