'Vasudeva continued, "O king of kings, Shalva, the lord of Saubha, approached our city with a massive force of infantry, cavalry, and elephants."' ॥ 3-17-1 ॥

समे निविष्टा सा सेना परभूतसलिलाशये चतुरङ्ग बलॊपेता शाल्वराजाभिपालिता ॥ ३-१७-२ ॥
'The army led by Shalva, consisting of four divisions, took up positions on level ground with ample water supply.' ॥ 3-17-2 ॥

वर्जयित्वा शमशानानि देवतायतनानि च वल्मीकाश चैव चैत्यांश च तन निविष्टम अभूद बलम ॥ ३-१७-३ ॥
'They avoided cemeteries, temples, sacred trees, and ant-hill covered areas, occupying every other location.' ॥ 3-17-3 ॥

अनीकानां विभागेन पन्थानः षट कृताभवन परवणा नव चैवासञ शाल्वस्य शिबिरे नृप ॥ ३-१७-४ ॥
'The roads leading to the city were blocked, and even the secret entrances were obstructed by the enemy's camp.' ॥ 3-17-4 ॥

सर्वायुधसमॊपेतं सर्वशस्त्रविशारदम रथनागाश्वकलिलं पदातिध्वजसंकुलम ॥ ३-१७-५ ॥
'O Kauravya, like the mighty Garuda, Shalva advanced towards Dwaraka with his well-equipped host. His army was proficient in various weapons and included a dense array of chariots, elephants, and cavalry adorned with banners.' ॥ 3-17-5 ॥
