तस्यां परतिहतायां तु दानवा युद्धदुर्मदाः पराकुर्वन विविधा माया यौगपद्येन भारत ॥ ३-१६८-११ ॥

'And when these were repelled, the Danavas, relentless in battle, O foremost of the Bharatas, conjured various illusions all at once.' ॥ 3-168-11 ॥

english translation

ततॊ वर्षं परादुरभूत सुमहन मॊम हर्षणम अस्त्राणां घॊररूपाणाम अग्नेर वायॊस तथाश्मनाम ॥ ३-१६८-१२ ॥

'Then, a terrible and horrifying shower of rocks, along with dread-inducing weapons of fire and wind, descended upon me.' ॥ 3-168-12 ॥

english translation

सा तु मायामयी वृष्टिः पीडयाम आस मां युधि अथ घॊरं तमस तीव्रं परादुरासीत समन्ततः ॥ ३-१६८-१३ ॥

'This illusory downpour troubled me in battle, and soon, a thick and oppressive darkness enveloped all sides.' ॥ 3-168-13 ॥

english translation

तमसा संवृते लॊके घॊरेण परुषेण च तुरगा विमुखाश चासन परास्खलच चापि मातलिः ॥ ३-१६८-१४ ॥

'And when the world was engulfed in profound and dense darkness, the steeds recoiled in fear, Mātali was thrown off, and the golden lash slipped from his hand, falling to the earth.' ॥ 3-168-14 ॥

english translation

हस्ताद धिरण्मयश चास्य परतॊदः परापतद भुवि असकृच चाह मां भीतः कवासीति भरतर्षभ ॥ ३-१६८-१५ ॥

'And, O foremost of the Bharatas, in his fear, he repeatedly cried, 'Where are you?' And when he was struck with stupor, a terrible fear overcame me.' ॥ 3-168-15 ॥
