ततॊ विचार्य बहुधा रथमार्गेषु तान हयान पराचॊदयत समे देशे मातलिर भरतर्षभ ॥ ३-१६६-१६ ॥
'Then, after much deliberation on the course of the chariot, Matali, O foremost of the Bharatas, began to guide the steeds over a stretch of level ground.' ॥ 3-166-16 ॥

तेन तेषां परणुन्नानाम आशुत्वाच छीघ्र गामिनाम नान्वपश्यं तदा किं चित तन मे ऽदभुतम इवाभवत ॥ ३-१६६-१७ ॥
'And due to the swiftness of those fleet coursers driven by him, I beheld nothing, which struck me as truly wondrous.' ॥ 3-166-17 ॥

ततस ते दानवास तत्र यॊधव्रातान्य अनेकशः विकृतस्वररूपाणि भृशं सर्वाण्य अचॊदयन ॥ ३-१६६-१८ ॥
'Then, the Danavas there began to sound thousands of musical instruments, discordant and of strange forms.' ॥ 3-166-18 ॥

तेन शब्देन महता समुद्रे पर्वतॊपमाः आप्लवन्त गतैः सत्त्वैर मत्स्याः शतसहस्रशः ॥ ३-१६६-१९ ॥
'At the sound of that noise, fish by the hundreds and thousands, as vast as hills, were struck with confusion and fled in a sudden panic.' ॥ 3-166-19 ॥

ततॊ वेगेन महता दानवा माम उपाद्रवन विमुञ्चन्तः शितान बाणाञ शतशॊ ऽथ सहस्रशः ॥ ३-१६६-२० ॥
'Then, with great speed, the demons rushed towards me, releasing sharp arrows by the hundreds and even thousands.' ॥ 3-166-20 ॥
