तम आपतन्तं वेगेन परभिन्नम इव वारणम वत्सदन्तैस तरिभिः पार्श्वे भीमसेनः समर्पयत ॥ ३-१५७-५६ ॥
'He charged forward like a maddened elephant, and Bhimasena pierced his sides with three sharp arrows.' ॥ 3-157-56 ॥
english translation
मणिमान अपि संक्रुद्धः परगृह्य महतीं गदाम पराहिणॊद भीमसेनाय परिक्षिप्य महाबलः ॥ ३-१५७-५७ ॥
'In his wrath, the mighty Maniman took up a massive mace, flourished it, and hurled it at Bhimasena.' ॥ 3-157-57 ॥
english translation
विद्युद्रूपां महाघॊराम आकाशे महतीं गदाम शरैर बहुभिर अभ्यर्च्छद भीमसेनः शिलाशितैः ॥ ३-१५७-५८ ॥
'Then Bhimasena, surrounded by countless arrows sharpened on stones, hurled the mighty, terrifying mace into the sky, resembling a lightning flash.' ॥ 3-157-58 ॥

परतिहन्यन्त ते सर्वे गदाम आसाद्य सायकाः न वेगं धारयाम आसुर गदा वेगस्य वेगिताः ॥ ३-१५७-५९ ॥
'Though fired with force by the skilled mace-wielder, the arrows were helpless against the mace, and could not halt its unstoppable path.' ॥ 3-157-59 ॥

गदायुद्धसमाचारं बुध्यमानः स वीर्यवान वयंसयाम आस तं तस्य परहारं भीमविक्रमः ॥ ३-१५७-६० ॥
'Then the mighty Bhima, with his dread prowess, thwarted the Rakshasa's strike by skillfully wielding his mace.' ॥ 3-157-60 ॥
