[वै] युधिष्ठिरस तम आसाद्य तपसा दग्धकिल्बिषम अभ्यवादयत परीतः शिरसा नाम कीर्तयन ॥ ३-१५६-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana continued, "Approaching the one whose sins had been burned away through asceticism, Yudhishthira announced his name and, filled with joy, respectfully greeted him, bowing his head."' ॥ 3-156-1 ॥

english translation

[vai] yudhiSThirasa tama AsAdya tapasA dagdhakilbiSama abhyavAdayata parItaH zirasA nAma kIrtayana ॥ 3-156-1 ॥

ततः कृष्णा च भीमश च यमौ चापि यशस्विनौ शिरॊभिः पराप्य राजर्षिं परिवार्यॊपतस्थिरे ॥ ३-१५६-२ ॥

'Then Krishna, Bhima, and the devout twins, having bowed their heads in reverence to the royal sage, stood around him, showing their respect.' ॥ 3-156-2 ॥

tataH kRSNA ca bhImaza ca yamau cApi yazasvinau ziròbhiH parApya rAjarSiM parivAryòpatasthire ॥ 3-156-2 ॥

तथैव धौम्यॊ धर्मज्ञः पाण्डवानां पुरॊहितः यथान्यायम उपाक्रान्तस तम ऋषिं संशितव्रतम ॥ ३-१५६-३ ॥

'Similarly, Dhaumya, the knower of dharma and the priest of the Pandavas, approached that sage who was devoted to strict austerities, and, in accordance with proper ritual, offered his respects.' ॥ 3-156-3 ॥

tathaiva dhaumyò dharmajJaH pANDavAnAM puròhitaH yathAnyAyama upAkrAntasa tama RSiM saMzitavratama ॥ 3-156-3 ॥

अन्वजानात स धर्मज्ञॊ मुनिर दिव्येन चक्षुषा पाण्डॊः पुत्रान कुरुश्रेष्ठान आस्यताम इति चाब्रवीत ॥ ३-१५६-४ ॥

'With his prophetic vision, the sage, already aware of their identity, recognized those foremost of the Kurus, the sons of Pandu. And he said to them, "Please, take your seats."' ॥ 3-156-4 ॥

anvajAnAta sa dharmajJò munira divyena cakSuSA pANDòH putrAna kuruzreSThAna AsyatAma iti cAbravIta ॥ 3-156-4 ॥

कुरूणाम ऋषभं पराज्ञं पूजयित्वा महातपाः सह भरातृभिर आसीनं पर्यपृच्छद अनामयम ॥ ३-१५६-५ ॥

'And the sage, after duly receiving the chief of the Kurus, Yudhishthira, and his brothers, seated them respectfully. Then, with a solemn tone, he inquired.' ॥ 3-156-5 ॥
