शुश्रूषा तु दविजातीनां शूद्राणां धर्म उच्यते भैक्ष हॊमव्रतैर हीनास तथैव गुरुवासिनाम ।। ३-१४९-३६ ।।

sanskrit

'The duty of the Sudra is to serve the twice-born orders. The Sudras are not permitted to beg alms, perform homas, or observe vows; they must live in the homes of their masters.' ।। 3-149-36 ।।

english translation

zuzrUSA tu davijAtInAM zUdrANAM dharma ucyate bhaikSa hòmavrataira hInAsa tathaiva guruvAsinAma || 3-149-36 ||

'O son of Kunti, your vocation is that of a Kshatriya, which is to protect the people. Perform your own duties with humility, O son of Kunti, while restraining your senses.' ।। 3-149-37 ।।

kaSatradharmò 'tara kaunteya tava dharmAbhirakSaNama savadharmaM paratipadyasva vinItò niyatendriyaH || 3-149-37 ||

वृद्धैर संमन्त्र्य सद्भिश च बुद्धिमद्भिः शरुतान्वितैः सुस्थितः शास्ति दन्देन वयसनी परिभूयते ।। ३-१४९-३८ ।।

sanskrit

'Only that king can govern effectively who seeks counsel from experienced individuals and is supported by honest, intelligent, and learned ministers. A king who indulges in vices is destined to fail.' ।। 3-149-38 ।।

vRddhaira saMmantrya sadbhiza ca buddhimadbhiH zarutAnvitaiH susthitaH zAsti dandena vayasanI paribhUyate || 3-149-38 ||

'The world’s order is truly upheld when the king appropriately enforces punishments and bestows favours.' ।। 3-149-39 ।।

nigrahAnugrahaiH samyaga yadA rAjA paravartate tadA bhavati lòkasya maryAdA suvyavasthitA || 3-149-39 ||

तस्माद देशे च दुर्गे च शत्रुमित्र बलेषु च नित्यं चारेण बॊद्धव्यं सथानं वृद्धिः कषयस तथा ।। ३-१४९-४० ।।

'Therefore, it is essential to gather information through spies about the nature of the enemy's territory, its fortified positions, the strength of their alliances, and the rise and fall of their power, as well as how they maintain the loyalty of the forces they have gathered.' ।। 3-149-40 ।।

tasmAda deze ca durge ca zatrumitra baleSu ca nityaM cAreNa bòddhavyaM sathAnaM vRddhiH kaSayasa tathA || 3-149-40 ||
