कालेन महता वेदाः शक्या गुरु मुखाद विभॊ पराप्तुं तस्माद अयं यत्नः परमॊ मे समास्थितः ॥ ३-१३५-२१ ॥
'O Lord, the knowledge of the Vedas, as taught by teachers, is attained only after a long period of study. Therefore, with the aim of attaining proficiency in the Vedas in a short time, I have undertaken these intense efforts.' ॥ 3-135-21 ॥
english translation
kAlena mahatA vedAH zakyA guru mukhAda vibhò parAptuM tasmAda ayaM yatnaH paramò me samAsthitaH ॥ 3-135-21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअमार्ग एष विप्रर्षे येन तवं यातुम इच्छसि किं विघातेन ते विप्र गच्छाधीहि गुरॊर मुखात ॥ ३-१३५-२२ ॥
'Indra said, "O Brahmana sage, the path you have chosen is not the right one. Why, O learned one, would you destroy yourself? Go and acquire knowledge from the teachings of a preceptor."' ॥ 3-135-22 ॥
english translation
amArga eSa viprarSe yena tavaM yAtuma icchasi kiM vighAtena te vipra gacchAdhIhi guròra mukhAta ॥ 3-135-22 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवम उक्त्वा गतः शक्रॊ यवक्रीर अपि भारत भूय एवाकरॊद यत्नं तपस्य अमितविक्रम ॥ ३-१३५-२३ ॥
'Lomasa said, "O son of Bharata, having spoken thus, Sakra departed, and Yavakri, endowed with boundless energy, once again focused his efforts on his ascetic practices."' ॥ 3-135-23 ॥
english translation
evama uktvA gataH zakrò yavakrIra api bhArata bhUya evAkaròda yatnaM tapasya amitavikrama ॥ 3-135-23 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptघॊरेण तपसा राजंस तप्यमानॊ महातपः संतापयाम आस भृशं देवेन्द्रम इति नः शरुतम ॥ ३-१३५-२४ ॥
'O king, we have heard that through his severe austerities, Yavakri once again greatly disturbed Indra.' ॥ 3-135-24 ॥

ghòreNa tapasA rAjaMsa tapyamAnò mahAtapaH saMtApayAma Asa bhRzaM devendrama iti naH zarutama ॥ 3-135-24 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतं तथा तप्यमानं तु तपस तीव्रं महामुनिम उपेत्य बलभिद देवॊ वारयाम आस वै पुनः ॥ ३-१३५-२५ ॥
'The god Indra, slayer of Vala, then approached that great sage, who was immersed in his penance, and forbade him, saying:' ॥ 3-135-25 ॥

taM tathA tapyamAnaM tu tapasa tIvraM mahAmunima upetya balabhida devò vArayAma Asa vai punaH ॥ 3-135-25 ॥
