अशक्यॊ ऽरथः समारब्धॊ नैतद बुद्धिकृतं तव परतिभास्यन्ति वै वेदास तव चैव पितुर च ते ॥ ३-१३५-२६ ॥
'You are striving with the aim that Vedic knowledge may be revealed to you and your father, but your efforts will not succeed, nor is this course of action wise.' ॥ 3-135-26 ॥
english translation
न चैतद एवं करियते देवराजममेप्सितम महता नियमेनाहं तप्स्ये घॊरतरं तपः ॥ ३-१३५-२७ ॥
'Yavakri said, "O lord of the celestials, if you will not grant my wish, I shall, by observing even stricter vows, undertake more intense penances."' ॥ 3-135-27 ॥
english translation
समिद्धे ऽगनाव उपकृत्याङ्गम अङ्गं; हॊष्यामि वा मघवंस तन निबॊध यद्य एतद एवं न करॊषि कामं; ममेप्सितं देवराजेह सर्वम ॥ ३-१३५-२८ ॥
'O lord of the celestials, know that if you do not fulfill all my desires, I shall sever my limbs and offer them as a sacrifice into the blazing fire.' ॥ 3-135-28 ॥
english translation
निश्चयं तम अभिज्ञाय मुनेस तस्य महात्मनः परतिवारण हेत्वर्थं बुद्ध्या संचिन्त्य बुद्धिमान ॥ ३-१३५-२९ ॥
'Lomasa said, "Knowing the firm determination of that high-souled sage, the wise Indra reflected and devised a plan to dissuade him."' ॥ 3-135-29 ॥
english translation
तत इन्द्रॊ ऽकरॊद रूपं बराह्मणस्य तपॊ विनः अनेकशतवर्षस्य दुर्बलस्य स यक्ष्मणः ॥ ३-१३५-३० ॥
'Disguising himself as an ancient ascetic Brahmana, frail and suffering from consumption, Indra began constructing a dam of sand at the very spot on the Bhagirathi where Yavakri used to come for his ablutions.' ॥ 3-135-30 ॥
