विरॊधिषु महीपाल निश्चित्य गुरुलाघवम न बाधा विद्यते यत्र तं धर्मं समुदाचरेत ।। ३-१३१-११ ।।

sanskrit

'O King (Mahipala), after carefully weighing the greater and lesser aspects (guru-laghavam) of opposing choices, one should follow that dharma which causes no harm/obstruction (badha)."' ।। 3-131-11 ।।

english translation

viròdhiSu mahIpAla nizcitya gurulAghavama na bAdhA vidyate yatra taM dharmaM samudAcareta || 3-131-11 ||

गुरुलाघवम आज्ञाय धर्माधर्मविनिश्चये यतॊ भूयांस ततॊ राजन कुरु धर्मविनिश्चयम ।। ३-१३१-१२ ।।

sanskrit

'O King (Rajan), after understanding the weight and lightness (importance and triviality) in determining dharma and adharma, make your decision about dharma in favor of that which has greater significance/benefit (bhuyams).' ।। 3-131-12 ।।

english translation

gurulAghavama AjJAya dharmAdharmavinizcaye yatò bhUyAMsa tatò rAjana kuru dharmavinizcayama || 3-131-12 ||

[र] बहुकल्याण संयुक्तं भाषसे विहगॊत्तम सुपर्णः पक्षिराट किं तवं धर्मज्ञश चास्य असंशयम तथा हि धर्मसंयुक्तं बहु चित्रं परभाषसे ।। ३-१३१-१३ ।।

'Thereupon, the king said, "O best of birds, as you speak words filled with great goodness, I have no doubt that you are Suparna, the king of birds. I am certain that you are well-versed in the ways of virtue."' ।। 3-131-13 ।।

english translation

[ra] bahukalyANa saMyuktaM bhASase vihagòttama suparNaH pakSirATa kiM tavaM dharmajJaza cAsya asaMzayama tathA hi dharmasaMyuktaM bahu citraM parabhASase || 3-131-13 ||

न ते ऽसत्य अविदितं किं चिद इति तवा लक्षयाम्य अहम शरणैषिणः परित्यागं कथं साध्व इति मन्यसे ।। ३-१३१-१४ ।।

sanskrit

'Since you speak so wisely about righteousness, I believe there is nothing about it that is unknown to you. How, then, can you consider forsaking one who seeks refuge as virtuous?"' ।। 3-131-14 ।।

english translation

na te 'satya aviditaM kiM cida iti tavA lakSayAmya ahama zaraNaiSiNaH parityAgaM kathaM sAdhva iti manyase || 3-131-14 ||

आहारार्थं समारम्भस तव चायं विहंगम शक्यश चाप्य अन्यथा कर्तुम आहारॊ ऽपय अधिकस तवया ।। ३-१३१-१५ ।।

sanskrit

'Your efforts, O bird of the skies, have been in pursuit of food. However, you may satisfy your hunger with another kind of nourishment, one even more abundant.' ।। 3-131-15 ।।

AhArArthaM samArambhasa tava cAyaM vihaMgama zakyaza cApya anyathA kartuma AhArò 'paya adhikasa tavayA || 3-131-15 ||
