[ल] अस्मिन किल सवयं राजन्न इष्टवान वै परजापतिः सत्रम इष्टी कृतं नाम पुरा वर्षसहस्रिकम ।। ३-१२९-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Lomasa said, "Here, O king, the Lord of all beings performed a sacrifice in ancient times, known as the Ishtikrita, which lasted for a thousand years."' ।। 3-129-1 ।।

english translation

[la] asmina kila savayaM rAjanna iSTavAna vai parajApatiH satrama iSTI kRtaM nAma purA varSasahasrikama || 3-129-1 ||

अम्बरीसश च नाभाग इष्टवान यमुनाम अनु यज्ञैश च तपसा चैव परां सिद्धिम अवाप सः ।। ३-१२९-२ ।।

sanskrit

'And Ambarisha, the son of Nabhaga, performed a sacrifice near the Yamuna river. After completing the sacrifice, he gave away ten Padmas (golden coins) to the attending priests, and through his sacrifices and austerities, he attained the highest success.' ।। 3-129-2 ।।

ambarIsaza ca nAbhAga iSTavAna yamunAma anu yajJaiza ca tapasA caiva parAM siddhima avApa saH || 3-129-2 ||

'O son of Kunti! This is the very spot where Yayati, the mighty son of Nahusha, who led a life of holiness, performed his sacrificial rites.' ।। 3-129-3 ।।

'O Kaunteya (son of Kunti), behold here the sacrificial grounds of the sovereign Yayati of immense prowess, who rivaled (or competed with) Shakra (Indra).' ।। 3-129-4 ।।

sArvabhaumasya kaunteya yayAtera amitaujasaH sapardhamAnasya zakreNa pazyedaM yajJavAstva iha || 3-129-4 ||

पश्य नानाविधाकारैर अग्निभिर निचितां महीम मज्जन्तीम इव चाक्रान्तां ययातेर यज्ञकर्मभिः ।। ३-१२९-५ ।।

'Behold how the ground is adorned with sites for various sacrificial fires, and how the earth itself seems to sink under the weight of Yayati's pious deeds.' ।। 3-129-5 ।।

pazya nAnAvidhAkAraira agnibhira nicitAM mahIma majjantIma iva cAkrAntAM yayAtera yajJakarmabhiH || 3-129-5 ||
