[य] कथंवीर्यः स राजाभूत सॊमकॊ वदतां वर कर्माण्य अस्य परभावं च शरॊतुम इच्छामि तत्त्वतः ॥ ३-१२७-१ ॥
'Yudhishthira said, "O foremost of speakers! What was the measure of strength and power possessed by King Somaka? I wish to hear a detailed account of his deeds and his greatness."' ॥ 3-127-1 ॥
english translation
[ल] युधिष्ठिरासीन नृपतिः सॊमकॊ नाम धार्मिकः तस्य भार्या शतं राजन सदृशीनाम अभूत तदा ॥ ३-१२७-२ ॥
'Lomasa said, "O Yudhishthira! There was a virtuous king named Somaka. He had one hundred wives, O king, each of whom was perfectly suited to her husband."' ॥ 3-127-2 ॥
english translation
स वै यत्नेन महता तासु पुत्रं महीपतिः कं चिन नासादयाम आस कालेन महता अपि ॥ ३-१२७-३ ॥
'He made great efforts, yet was unable to have a single son from any of his wives, and a long time passed as he remained without an heir.' ॥ 3-127-3 ॥
english translation
कदा चित तस्य वृद्धस्य यतमानस्य यत्नतः जन्तुर नाम सुतस तस्मिन सत्री शते समजायत ॥ ३-१२७-४ ॥
'Once, when he had grown old and had tried every means to have a son, a child named Jantu was born to him from his hundred wives.' ॥ 3-127-4 ॥
english translation
तं जातं मातरः सर्वाः परिवार्य समासते सततं पृष्ठतः कृत्वा कामभॊगान विशां पते ॥ ३-१२७-५ ॥
'O lord of people (visham pate), all the mothers sat surrounding him when he was born, keeping material pleasures/enjoyments behind them.' ॥ 3-127-5 ॥
