[ल] भृगॊर महर्षेः पुत्रॊ ऽभूच चयवनॊ नाम भार्गवः समीपे सरसः सॊ ऽसय तपस तेपे महाद्युतिः ॥ ३-१२२-१ ॥
'Lomasa said, "A son was born to the great sage Bhrigu, named Chyavana. Possessing a radiant form, he began practicing severe austerities by the side of that lake."' ॥ 3-122-1 ॥
english translation
सथाणुभूतॊ महातेजा वीर सथानेन पाण्डव अतिष्ठत सुबहून कालान एकदेशे विशां पते ॥ ३-१२२-२ ॥
'And, O son of Pandu and protector of men, with immense energy, he assumed the steadfast Vira posture, remaining still and unmoving, like a lifeless pillar.' ॥ 3-122-2 ॥
english translation
स वल्मीकॊ ऽभवद ऋषिर लताभिर अभिसंवृतः कालेन महता राजन समाकीर्णः पिपीलिकैः ॥ ३-१२२-३ ॥
'For ages, he stood in that very spot, becoming encased in an anthill overgrown with creeping plants.' ॥ 3-122-3 ॥
english translation
तथा स संवृतॊ धीमान मृत पिण्ड इव सर्वशः तप्यति सम तपॊ राजन वल्मीकेन समावृतः ॥ ३-१२२-४ ॥
'Over a long period, swarms of ants gradually covered him until he looked just like a mound of earth. Enveloped on all sides by the anthill, the sage continued his intense austerities, undisturbed and resolute.' ॥ 3-122-4 ॥

अथ दीर्घस्य कालस्य शर्यातिर नाम पार्थिवः आजगाम सरॊ रम्यं विहर्तुम इदम उत्तमम ॥ ३-१२२-५ ॥
'After a long span of time, the ruler of the earth, named Saryati, arrived at this delightful and serene lake, seeking recreation.' ॥ 3-122-5 ॥
