ततॊ यज्ञेन महता जामदग्न्यः परतापवान तर्पयाम आस देवेन्द्रम ऋत्विग्भ्यश च महीं ददौ ॥ ३-११७-११ ॥

'Then, the son of Jamadagni, known for his formidable reputation, performed a grand sacrifice to please the lord of the celestials and bestowed the earth upon the officiating priests.' ॥ 3-117-11 ॥

tatò yajJena mahatA jAmadagnyaH paratApavAna tarpayAma Asa devendrama Rtvigbhyaza ca mahIM dadau ॥ 3-117-11 ॥

वेदीं चाप्य अददद धैमीं कश्यपाय महात्मने दशव्यामायतां कृत्वा नवॊत्सेधां विशां पते ॥ ३-११७-१२ ॥

'And, O protector of humanity, he constructed a golden altar, ten Vyamas wide and nine tall, which he then generously offered to the noble Kasyapa.' ॥ 3-117-12 ॥

vedIM cApya adadada dhaimIM kazyapAya mahAtmane dazavyAmAyatAM kRtvA navòtsedhAM vizAM pate ॥ 3-117-12 ॥

तां कश्यपस्यानुमते बराह्मणाः खन्द शस तदा वयभजंस तेन ते राजन परख्याताः खान्दवायनाः ॥ ३-११७-१३ ॥

'Following Kasyapa's instruction, the Brahmanas divided the altar into several portions, earning them the name Khandavayamas, or 'the share-takers.'' ॥ 3-117-13 ॥

स परदाय महीं तस्मै कश्यपाय महात्मने अस्मिन महेन्द्रे शैलेन्द्रे वसत्य अमितविक्रमः ॥ ३-११७-१४ ॥

'The exterminator of the military race, endowed with immense strength, granted the earth to the high-souled Kasyapa and then devoted himself to severe penance.' ॥ 3-117-14 ॥

'Thus there arose enmity between him and the Kshatriyas dwelling in the world, And indeed the earth was conquered by Rama of immeasurable prowess.' ॥ 3-117-15 ॥
