ते तं जघ्नुर महावीर्यम अयुध्यन्तं तपॊ विनम असकृद राम रामेति विक्रॊशन्तम अनाथवत ॥ ३-११६-२६ ॥

'They killed him there; for despite his great strength, he was engaged in penance and refused to fight. As he was beset by his enemies, he helplessly cried out the name of Rama in a pitiful tone.' ॥ 3-116-26 ॥

english translation

te taM jaghnura mahAvIryama ayudhyantaM tapò vinama asakRda rAma rAmeti vikròzantama anAthavata ॥ 3-116-26 ॥

कार्तवीर्यस्य पुत्रास तु जमदग्निं युधिष्ठिर घातयित्वा शरैर जग्मुर यथागतम अरिंदमाः ॥ ३-११६-२७ ॥

'And, O Yudhishthira, the sons of Kartavirya struck Jamadagni with their arrows, and having vanquished their foe, they departed.' ॥ 3-116-27 ॥

english translation

kArtavIryasya putrAsa tu jamadagniM yudhiSThira ghAtayitvA zaraira jagmura yathAgatama ariMdamAH ॥ 3-116-27 ॥

अपक्रान्तेषु चैतेषु जमदग्नौ तथागते समित पाणिर उपागच्छद आश्रमं भृगुनन्दनः ॥ ३-११६-२८ ॥

'After they had gone and Jamadagni had breathed his last, Rama, the beloved of Bhrigu's line, returned to the hermitage, carrying fuel for the sacred rites in his arms.' ॥ 3-116-28 ॥

apakrAnteSu caiteSu jamadagnau tathAgate samita pANira upAgacchada AzramaM bhRgunandanaH ॥ 3-116-28 ॥

स दृष्ट्वा पितरं वीरस तथा मृत्युवशं गतम अनर्हन्तं तथा भूतं विललाप सुदुःखितः ॥ ३-११६-२९ ॥

'And the hero beheld his father, slain and fallen. Overwhelmed with grief, he began to lament the unjust fate that had brought his father to such a tragic end.' ॥ 3-116-29 ॥

sa dRSTvA pitaraM vIrasa tathA mRtyuvazaM gatama anarhantaM tathA bhUtaM vilalApa suduHkhitaH ॥ 3-116-29 ॥
