[धृ] भगवन नाहम अप्य एतद रॊचये दयूतसंस्तवम मन्ये तद विधिनाक्रम्य कारितॊ ऽसमीति वै मुने ॥ ३-१०-१ ॥
'Dhritarashtra said, "O holy sage, I did not approve of the gambling, but I believe I was compelled to consent by fate itself."' ॥ 3-10-1 ॥
english translation
नैतद रॊचयते भीष्मॊ न दरॊणॊ विदुरॊ न च गान्धारी नेच्छति दयूतं तच च मॊहात परवर्तितम ॥ ३-१०-२ ॥
'Neither Bhishma, nor Drona, nor Vidura, nor Gandhari supported this game of dice; it was indeed an act of folly.' ॥ 3-10-2 ॥
english translation
परित्यक्तुं न शक्नॊमि दुर्यॊधनम अचेतनम पुत्रस्नेहेन भगवञ जानन्न अपि यतव्रत ॥ ३-१०-३ ॥
'O venerable one, despite your wisdom and your adherence to righteousness, I find myself unable to renounce my misguided son, Duryodhana, driven as I am by paternal affection.' ॥ 3-10-3 ॥
english translation
[वय] वैचित्र वीर्यनृपते सत्यम आह यथा भवान दृढं वेद्मि परं पुत्रं परं पुत्रान न विद्यते ॥ ३-१०-४ ॥
'Vyasa said, "O king, son of Vichitravirya, what you say is indeed true. We all understand that a son is the greatest of all possessions and that nothing surpasses the worth of a son."' ॥ 3-10-4 ॥

इन्द्रॊ ऽपय अश्रुनिपातेन सुरभ्या परतिबॊधितः अन्यैः समृद्धैर अप्य अर्थैर न सुताद विद्यते परम ॥ ३-१०-५ ॥
'Informed by the lamentations of Suravi, Indra came to realize that a son excels over all other valuable possessions.' ॥ 3-10-5 ॥
