तं ते दिवसशेषेण वटं गत्वा तु पाण्डवाः ऊषुस तां रजनीं वीराः संस्पृश्य सलिलं शुचि उदकेनैव तां रात्रिम ऊषुस ते दुःखकर्शिताः ॥ ३-१-४० ॥
'Arriving at the site of the banyan tree towards the end of the day, the heroic sons of Pandu purified themselves by touching the sacred waters and spent the night there. Afflicted with sorrow, they sustained themselves with water alone that night.' ॥ 3-1-40 ॥
