The Blessed One said: As a man of great wisdom would speak, as a discerning man would speak—so indeed should a friend like me be addressed by a friend like you.

You have spoken to me with words joined to dharma and artha, and truthful as well, as befits you; indeed, in this matter you have addressed me as a father or a mother would.

english translation

True, timely, and reasonable—so indeed have you spoken to me. Now hear the reason for my going, Vidura; be attentive.

english translation

Knowing the depravity of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s son and the hostility among the kṣatriyas, I have nevertheless come today to the Kauravas, O chamberlain (Vidura).

english translation

Whoever would free the whole earth—together with its horses, chariots, and elephants—from the noose of death would attain the highest dharma.
