This Kṣatriya code seems blameworthy, and we are bound to the Kṣatriya line. Whether it is truly our own duty or a form of non‑duty, any other livelihood is censured for us.

english translation

The Śūdra lives by service; the Vaiśya by trade. We live by killing—like a begging bowl carried by Brahmins—our livelihood feeling stained with moral fault.

english translation

A Kṣatriya kills a Kṣatriya; a fish lives by consuming fish; a dog kills a dog. O Dāśārha, behold how ‘dharma’ has come to be understood.

english translation

In war, O Kṛṣṇa, discord is constant, and lives falter in the clash. Force is only a limited instrument of policy; under sheer obstinacy, victory and defeat become arbitrary.

english translation

The life and death of beings do not proceed according to one’s personal preference. Nor are pleasure or suffering obtained out of season, O best of the Yadus.
