A śūdra, honoring in due order the brāhmaṇa, the kṣatriya, and the vaiśya as is proper, and with them satisfied, becomes free from distress; his demerit is said to be consumed, and upon leaving the body he enjoys the felicities of heaven.

english translation

This is the dharma of the four varṇas as I have declared it; now grasp the reason I set forth. The son of Pāṇḍu is being deprived of kṣatriya-dharma; therefore, O king, restore him to rājadharma—to the duties and rights of kingship.

english translation

Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: It is indeed so, just as you continually instruct me. My own understanding too, gentle one, aligns itself with what you have told me.

english translation

Yet that resolve—though thus formed in my mind toward the Pāṇḍavas—when I draw near to Duryodhana, repeatedly turns back in the opposite direction.

english translation

No mortal can transgress what is ordained. I deem that only what is decreed comes to pass, while human effort is without effective purpose.
