Dear father, one who seeks well-being should not enter into hostility with kinsmen. Comforts should be enjoyed together with kinsmen, O best of the Bharatas.

english translation

Shared meals, mutual conversation, and reciprocal goodwill—one should conduct affairs together with one’s kinsmen and never, in any way, set oneself in opposition to them.

english translation

Kinsmen can support one here, and kinsmen can also bring one down. Those of good conduct support one here; those of bad conduct bring one down.

english translation

Be of good conduct, O lord of kings, toward the Pāṇḍavas, O giver of honor. Supported by them, you will become unassailable to your foes.

english translation

A kinsman who, having approached a prosperous relative, falls into distress—like a deer approaching one whose hands are smeared with bait—incurs the moral fault attributable to that person.
