An enemy who has fallen into one’s grasp and reached a state requiring restraint should not be released; for from an unneutralized foe, danger soon arises again.

english translation

With deliberate care—toward the deities, toward kings, and toward brāhmaṇas—anger should always be restrained; and likewise toward the elderly, children, and the ill.

english translation

A wise person should avoid purposeless quarrel, a practice favored by the unreflective; he gains good repute in the world and is not entangled in harm.

english translation

One whose favor yields no benefit and whose anger is likewise without effect is not desired as a leader—just as women do not desire an impotent husband.

english translation

Intelligence is not for the mere acquisition of wealth, nor is dullness for prosperity; the wise understand the patterns and turns of worldly affairs—others do not.
