Sudhanvan said: “The water and madhuparka were already offered to me on the road. But you, Prahrāda—since we ask—declare to us the truth of the matter.”

english translation

Prahrāda said: “O brāhmaṇa, you are either my son or an outsider, and you stand here as a witness. How could one such as I answer the question of two disputants?”

“Now if someone does not answer—whether with truth or with untruth—this I ask you, Sudhanvan: what fate befalls a poor respondent?”

english translation

Sudhanvan said: “A poor respondent dwells in a night like that of a man whose wife has been taken by another, like that of one defeated at dice, and like that of one whose body is distressed by burdens.”
