जानाति विश्वासयितुं मनुष्यान्विज्ञातदोषेषु दधाति दण्डम् । जानाति मात्रां च तथा क्षमां च तं तादृशं श्रीर्जुषते समग्रा ॥५-३३-८६॥
He knows how to inspire trust in people; he applies sanction where faults are ascertained; he understands proportion as well as forbearance—complete prosperity attends such a person.
english translation
सुदुर्बलं नावजानाति कंचिद्युक्तो रिपुं सेवते बुद्धिपूर्वम् । न विग्रहं रोचयते बलस्थैः काले च यो विक्रमते स धीरः॥५-३३-८७॥
He despises no one as utterly weak; when fitting, he deals even with an enemy with deliberate counsel. He does not relish conflict with those firmly established in power; and at the proper time he advances with initiative—such a one is steadfast, a dhīra.

प्राप्यापदं न व्यथते कदाचिदुद्योगमन्विच्छति चाप्रमत्तः । दुःखं च काले सहते जितात्मा धुरंधरस्तस्य जिताः सपत्नाः॥५-३३-८८॥
When adversity comes, he is never shaken; vigilant and unheedful of negligence, he seeks the effort that is due. Self-mastered, he endures hardship when it is time to endure; fit to bear responsibility, he overcomes his rivals.

अनर्थकं विप्रवासं गृहेभ्यः पापैः संधिं परदाराभिमर्शम् । दम्भं स्तैन्यं पैशुनं मद्यपानं न सेवते यः स सुखी सदैव॥५-३३-८९॥
He who does not pursue purposeless absence from home, nor alliance with the wicked, nor violation of another’s wife; who does not resort to hypocrisy, theft, malicious tale-bearing, or intoxicating drink—such a person is ever in well-being.

न संरम्भेणारभतेऽर्थवर्गमाकारितः शंसति तथ्यमेव । न मात्रार्थे रोचयते विवादं नापूजितः कुप्यति चाप्यमूढः॥५-३३-९०॥
He does not set about the pursuit of aims in a surge of agitation; when questioned, he speaks only truth. He does not delight in dispute for petty gain; and if not honored, he does not grow angry, for his judgment is unclouded.
