सुचेतसौ बलिनौ शीघ्रहस्तौ सुशिक्षितौ भ्रातरौ फल्गुनेन । श्येनौ यथा पक्षिपूगान्रुजन्तौ माद्रीपुत्रौ नेह कुरून्विशेताम्॥५-२२-१६॥
The two brothers—clear-minded, strong, swift-handed, and well-trained by Phalguna—Mādrī’s sons, would here enter the Kurus’ ranks like two hawks breaking through flocks of birds.

तेषां मध्ये वर्तमानस्तरस्वी धृष्टद्युम्नः पाण्डवानामिहैकः । सहामात्यः सोमकानां प्रबर्हः संत्यक्तात्मा पाण्डवानां जयाय॥५-२२-१७॥
Among them stands the forceful Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the sole commander here for the Pāṇḍavas; together with his ministers, the eminent leader of the Somakas, he is one who has renounced concern for his own life for the Pāṇḍavas’ victory.

सहोषितश्चरितार्थो वयःस्थः शाल्वेयानामधिपो वै विराटः । सह पुत्रैः पाण्डवार्थे च शश्वद्युधिष्ठिरं भक्त इति श्रुतं मे॥५-२२-१८॥
Virāṭa, ruler of the Śālveyas—mature in years and accomplished—together with his sons, has long been steadfast in the Pāṇḍavas’ cause; I have heard that he is devoted to Yudhiṣṭhira.

अवरुद्धा बलिनः केकयेभ्यो महेष्वासा भ्रातरः पञ्च सन्ति । केकयेभ्यो राज्यमाकाङ्क्षमाणा युद्धार्थिनश्चानुवसन्ति पार्थान्॥५-२२-१९॥
There are five brothers—powerful and great bowmen—kept in restraint by the Kekayas. Seeking a kingdom from the Kekayas and desiring battle, they have attached themselves to the Pārthas.

सर्वे च वीराः पृथिवीपतीनां समानीताः पाण्डवार्थे निविष्टाः । शूरानहं भक्तिमतः शृणोमि प्रीत्या युक्तान्संश्रितान्धर्मराजम्॥५-२२-२०॥
And all those heroes of the earth’s rulers have been assembled and committed to the Pāṇḍavas’ cause. I hear that these valorous men, devoted and joined by goodwill, have taken refuge with Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira).
