ततोऽहमब्रुवं देवीमभिवाद्य कृताञ्जलिः । सर्वं तद्भरतश्रेष्ठ यथावृत्तं स्वयंवरे॥५-१७९-२६॥
Then, having saluted the goddess with joined hands, I told her everything, O best of the Bharatas—exactly as it had occurred at the svayaṃvara.
english translation
यथा च रामो राजेन्द्र मया पूर्वं प्रसादितः । काशिराजसुतायाश्च यथा कामः पुरातनः॥५-१७९-२७॥
And I explained, O lord of kings, how Rāma had earlier been appeased by me, and how the long-standing intention of the daughter of the king of Kāśī stood firm.

ततः सा राममभ्येत्य जननी मे महानदी । मदर्थं तमृषिं देवी क्षमयामास भार्गवम् । भीष्मेण सह मा योत्सीः शिष्येणेति वचोऽब्रवीत्॥५-१७९-२८॥
Then my mother, the great river, approached Rāma; for my sake the goddess sought pardon from that seer Bhārgava and said: “Do not engage in combat with Bhīṣma, your disciple.”

स च तामाह याचन्तीं भीष्ममेव निवर्तय । न हि मे कुरुते काममित्यहं तमुपागमम्॥५-१७९-२९॥
And he said to her as she pleaded, “Turn Bhīṣma back, for he does not comply with my wish.” Thus I approached him.

संजय उवाच । ततो गङ्गा सुतस्नेहाद्भीष्मं पुनरुपागमत् । न चास्याः सोऽकरोद्वाक्यं क्रोधपर्याकुलेक्षणः॥५-१७९-३०॥
Sañjaya said: Then Gaṅgā, out of affection for her son, approached Bhīṣma again. But he did not act upon her words, his eyes unsettled by anger.
