यच्चापि कत्थसे राम बहुशः परिषत्सु वै । निर्जिताः क्षत्रिया लोके मयैकेनेति तच्छृणु॥५-१७८-३६॥
And as for what you boast, O Rāma, repeatedly in assemblies—‘the kṣatriyas of the world were overcome by me alone’—listen to this.
english translation
न तदा जायते भीष्मो मद्विधः क्षत्रियोऽपि वा । यस्ते युद्धमयं दर्पं कामं च व्यपनाशयेत्॥५-१७८-३७॥
At that time, O Bhīṣma, no Bhīṣma is born—nor even a kṣatriya like me—who could strip from you this war-bent pride and this desire.
english translation
सोऽहं जातो महाबाहो भीष्मः परपुरंजयः । व्यपनेष्यामि ते दर्पं युद्धे राम न संशयः॥५-१७८-३८॥
I, Bhīṣma—mighty-armed, conqueror of enemy strongholds—have indeed been born; and in battle, O Rāma, I shall remove your pride—of this there is no doubt.
